We ran a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang game using .45 Adventure this weekend at Rapier '09, a local con in Jacksonville, Fl.

Pictures can be found at:

Fighting for control of the SPECTRE / KAOS base were CONTROL (Agents 86 and 99), MI6 (James Bond and his companion), The SAS, KAOS, SPECTRE and Henchmen for Hire LLC.

The game centered around a stolen A-Bomb and a laser drill that could bore to the center of the earth. Ernst Stavro Blofeld (SPECTRE) and Conrad Siegfried (KAOS) were competing to see who would have the honor of pushing the button, while the rest wanted to stop them.

We used 2 decks, one deck of normal encounter cards (including the infamous Lava Burp – which almost threw Mr Bond into the lava) and another for the control panels around the base..

One of the encounter cards was a scientist who had disabled the laser/bomb countdown. In order to restart the countdown, the control panel cards were used. Each panel would make it easier or harder to restart the countdown If the operator passed a brains test.

In the game, the countdown was successfully restarted and got down to "2" and the villains were cackling with glee. The Red Hotline Phone in the control room rang with the President on the line saying he was ready to cut a deal. Blofeld replied "Nah, I'd rather blow up the world." No sooner did those words get uttered when a nameless SAS trooper managed to stop the countdown with 1 tick remaining. The scientist was located, James Bond and Agent 99 both went down and the bomb was pushed into the lava.

The only problem with the game was that no one got close enough to be affected by the Sharks with Frikin Laser Beams. Oh, well. There is always the sequel.

Cool!!!!

And I see the Euro News Babe is on your screen too!!!!

Toshach24 Jun 2009 7:42 p.m. PST

Fabulous layout. You've really captured a Dr. No/You Only Live Twice feel.

Now, as much as I love Agent 99, Bond's female foils and love interests absolutely must have names that set the imagination reeling. Aside from that mere technicality, A+.

Love the sharks with frickin' lazers!

I was at the CON its was one of the best looking gameing terrain I have ever seen. The guys at the Jacksonville garrison put on some of the best looking games in the whole south east. The CON was also great with about 250+ gamers, lot's of Historical Miniatures, and Board Games. My wife and I had a blast.

Very impressive--I'd have liked some more close-ups of your characters just to confirm "who was who". I noticed your use of Black Tree UNIT troops and had indeed thought of doing exactly the same with mine and employing them as generic cannon-fodder guards.

Bond's female foils and love interests absolutely must have names that set the imagination reeling.

Fanny Welcome?
Bonnie King?
Ophelia Lots?

What was on today's agenda- it was just a little too blurred.

If you want to know how the spy got wet, check out the following pictures of The Spy Who Got Wet Part I which was run earlier in the day.

As in the movie Thunderball, Spectre has hijacked an Avro Vulcan and landed it in the Bahamas. They are in the process of removing the A bombs when the USMC attacks. Spectre is able to get one bomb of the board which shows up in Part II as demonstrated by the earlier pictures.

Howler25 Jun 2009 4:48 p.m. PST

Nicely done. Maybe I can talk my wife into moving to Jacksonville.

Redroom25 Jun 2009 4:53 p.m. PST

Excellent work, really like how you put the signs in.

Pyrate Captain25 Jun 2009 10:44 p.m. PST

Wow! Simply, wow.

sneakgun26 Jun 2009 11:22 a.m. PST

Awesome Thunderball revisited. Who makes the frogmen and the minisubs?

chipjaxgarrison26 Jun 2009 11:50 a.m. PST

The minisubs were scratchbuilt by Alex (above). The frogmen I found on ebay. They are approximately 25mm, and are made of plastic, so I had to prime them with the Krylon for plastics paint and then repaint them.

Whatisitgood4atwork26 Jun 2009 8:14 p.m. PST

Wonderful. Applause!

ttauri27 Jun 2009 12:41 p.m. PST

That's quite superb. Hugely impressive pair of games.

IronMike28 Jun 2009 7:29 a.m. PST

Gotta say this looks seriously awesome…It gave me a titanic 'Evil Genius' Flashback, but in a good way…
