Hell-0!~

I was wondering if anybody knows of a good car-combat / Road Warrior type of games/rules for 28mm? Oh, and the 28mm cars and minis too…

I know of GorkaMorka, any others?

Thanks!

Some people use Car Wars and scale everything up to 15 or 28mm. For cars they use 1:43 to 1:56th scale metal ones. Plenty of places make Road Warrior type figures, Copplestone Castings for one.

Ramshackle has the Nuke Renaissance rules that covers vehicles, you can get them free here (they also sell vehicles and minis) :-

I know that there was a wastelands add on for Necromunda that covered vehicles. As I recall it was similar rules to the Gorkamorka rules.

The Skank rules have some good vehicle rules too – free here:-

Combat Zone has free vehicle rules too. EM4 minis, Copplestone and foundry all do suitable minis for Road warrior type games.

For cars and stuff I usually keep an eye on my local thrift shops. Take a mini and see if it looks right.

Not officially released – but beta tested at Cold Wars is Atomic Cafe 1957.

And there is more on the Brigade Forums about them

Will Atomic Cafe be vehicle based?

Not sure what the direction is – but vehicles were definitely used in the beta.

GW had rules way back called Dark Future. There was also an expansion called White Line Fever. I remember it being a very fun, very Road warrior game. It only covered cars, bikes and trucks. It was played on road tiles. I actually have a copy somewhere but I haven't touched it in 20 years.

They have the rules and expansions available for free download the Specialist Games website.

They would require you to make your own road templates, but they are free.

I beleive Dark Future was 20mm, so is the new Warlands by Aberrant Games. I've played Warlands and love it. It's possible to scale up to 28mm and use 1/43rd scale cars. However I'd advise having lots of room to play with.

Stan Johansen has a line of 20mm Road Warrior figures and vehicles at link

I'e thought about converting the old GW boardgame Battlecars to 28mm miniatures. It would work really well using converted diecasts (the Dark Future weapon sprues are perfect for this) and future wars figures from Foundry, Copplestone etc.

It's a simple system but with some really neat mechanics. It plays fast and is a lot of fun, especially for big multiplayer games. You'd need to mark out a board and build some terrian tiles but this would be easy if you went for the post apocalyptic look i.e. scrubby wasteland, rusty girders, piles of rubble etc.

You can pick up copies on ebay quite often, including the battlebikes expansion set.

If you're looking for vehicles try searching for 1/43 scale diecast cars by Burago. There are a variety of sports cars, rally cars, indy cars etc in the range and they're often very cheap secondhand.

And Westwind do some nice post apoclyse 28mm figures in their Road Kill range:

I think they do some rules too?

richarDISNEY24 Jun 2009 7:22 a.m. PST

Yea… Westwind's Road Kill. Cpt. Jake GAVE me the rules, as he said, they were fairly unreadable.

And he was right. The copy I got had edit problems and page switches all over the place… Plus it reads like it was poorly translated…

That's why I am looking fer other stuff…

I did find this, and bought one…

AC57 seems more skirmish w/ vehicles – so the fight around the petrol station rather than out on the open road.

This might change down the road with more vehicle rules added in.

I think Aberrant Games just released their Road Warrior type game. Battle reports looked like fun to play

CmdrKiley24 Jun 2009 6:47 p.m. PST

It's called Warlands, it's great!

richarDISNEY25 Jun 2009 7:23 a.m. PST

Unfortunately, Warlands in 20mm… frown When I heard about it a while ago, I was hoping for 28mm like Rezolution…

There was a game system marketed by Testors, I can't think of the name at the moment. It used 1/43rd scale cars and they sold 'upgrade kits' to roadwarriorize common toy cars.

I played it at Gen Con years ago and liked the mechanics. I bought the rulebook, but found it to be horribly written. Very little support for the game too. Not sure if it's still around.
