So a couple of months ago I asked you, my fellow TMPers, advice on starting in 6mm, 25mm, and Space. The following is the resulting Starfleets based on the advice of the latter.

All of the minis and bases come from Em4s plastic star fighter line, which I modified (Some heavily, others only slightly), to larger scale starships, best of all it cost me only slightly over 15$ to put together all three fleets. A nice start if I do say so!

Each fleet has at least three to four types of ships (3 orders of Em4s spaceships which each contained 12 different craft.) There are about 33 craft total (Including some bits that were cut off of some ships and made into small craft of their own.)

The first fleet is my favorite because of the general look and paint job picture
This fleet has a few more ships than the others because the three smallest ships are actually bits that I cut off of some the ships. I feel they lend themselves well to small patrol craft.

The second fleet looks very sharp and sleek design wise, but the painting went horribly wrong as I still hadn't learned that slightly watered paint goes on much smoother; the last fleet didn't have this problem because it was one base coat then lots of drybrushing.

I rather like the paint scheme so I might give it another go, I just need to blend the colors together better and use some slightly different shades.

The third fleet I managed to make the colors go better and am happy with how they turned out. Not outstanding, but good.

I kind of like the slight organic paint job. Chocolate brown and plain ol' green were the base coats, followed by jubilee green and plain ol' brown drybrushing. Finally, a brown and sunshine yellow mix was used for the final drybrushing.

All in all I am very pleased with the fleets. Being a soft-ish plastic they modified well and I also was able to do variations of ships. Being that I ordered three boxes, I got 3 of each ship. So, I did some variation in looks like you'd see in a real navy with slightly different classes. So, I had say, 3 destroyers per fleet, I could make two "Assault Destroyers" and one "Escort Destroyer", etc. Just by shaving off a little here instead of there.

I'm going to be ordering some more soon so I can do some Beast-like infected ships (Ala, Homeworld: Cataclysm.) As a fourth faction, by using the same ships!!!

Some more pics:

Three Fleets engage Poctera, Scourge of Worlds. The picture is blurry, cause, uh… the Recon ship is-uh.. moving fast!

"It's as big as a Battleship! Command, target seems to have spotted us. Bogey is approaching fast!"

"It's coming right for us! Look o- CHSHHSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"
Contact with the USS Peeping Tom lost

Seriously though, this lovebird will terrorize my minis occasionally, as well as steal the keys off of my keyboard and attempt to fly off with them…

We're being flanked! Two destroyers engaging a Cruiser.

The small fries of the "Blue" fleet. The two flanking ships were made from bits that were cut off of other ships.

The background is a Starmat made from black cloth and decorated by flicking paint off of an old toothbrush. The heavier areas were done by drybrushing to give a cloudy look. The paint flinging toothbrush is great for Starships bases as well.

All the ships will be ran with Full Thrust (Eventually!)

Next up (Eventually): Asteroids, planetoids, Bogey Markers, and Infected Ships.

Well, what do you think?

And- this is the longest post I've done on TMP.

Come to think of it, the 3rd fleet Paint Scheme might go well with Eldar. Not that I play GW games, just a thought.

I haven't worked out much fluff but the "Blue" fleet might make out to be a Federation or Empire. The Red/Yellow have the look of Pirates of some other Miliateristic race. The Green/Browns have the look of traders or explorers. The eventual "Infected" will either have a decrepit version of their original paint scheme or will be a chitinous or bone like such as the infection modified the hull, also, it's going to have organic and twisted limbs, weapons, pods, etc. Sculpted on to give them look scary and organic.

Looks good.

Thanks! Now where is BlackWidowPilot? He's the one who gave me the idea to use Em4 miniatures…

Looks good!

Bogey/blip markers are pretty easy to do, some ping-pong balls or small styrofoam balls will work wonders. You'll need to use different finishing techniques, though: the solvents in enamel spraypaints attack styrofoam, so use Krylon Acrylic sprays.

You can use larger 'foam balls to make the rest of your terrain. I recommend reading through the Battlefleet Gothic rulebook (at least the terrain section).
