I'm painting 6mm ACW artillery. The rules I am using distinguish between heavy and light, smoothbore and rifled artillery. From a distance, my 6mm artillery looks very similar. How would you distinguish the various artillery types, so the types are obvious in the course of play? Should I paint the barrels different colours? Have more or fewer crew on the base? Suggestions appreciated as always. |

I'd do rifles in gunmetal, smoothbores in bronze, and maybe have different numbers of crew to distinguish light from heavy. |

I'd do all the iron pieces in black: that covers the rifled tubes. They were kept painted for protection. Smoothbores in bronze, as Dom says; they were kept bright. OK, there were four Rebel iron Napoleons

Here is what I use for my 6mm. Gold – Napoleon Silver – 10# parott Gloss Black – ordnance rifle or James rifle Dull Black – 6# Smooth Bore Number of sections is defined by the number of crew. |
