Here is my first battle report accounting a shootout outside of my western town, Leadville's, most frequented drinking establishment. The fight is the culmination of a feud between the town marshal The Frisco Kid and a local rancher named Butch Thatcher. Butch and his boys arrived in town and the Kid headed out into the street for a showdown. The bartender Alexander Harvey grabbed his shotgun from behind the bar and followed.

Butch and his cowboys were clearly expecting them. They had all assembled outside in the street. Fortunately a gunfighter known as The Duke was standing outside Patterson's gun shop ready to assist the Kid.

Butch and the Frisco Kid both reached for their guns but the Frisco Kid was faster and Butch went down in a hail of bullets. The Kid then turned and gunned down Butch's foreman Poke with a fatal headshot. he then whirled and killed a cowboy know as the Laredo Tornado with a gutshot.

Jack Cobb, another cowboy, knocked the Frisco kid down with a shot to his leg. Meanwhile Billy Thatcher, Butch's younger brother, advanced down the street gun blazing. Duke tried to fire on him but jammed his rifle. Billy severly wounded him in the chest but Duke was still able to pull out his pistol and return fire. Billy wounded the Duke seriously several times more before the Duke knocked him over with a shot to the leg.

Alexander Harvey wheeled and fired both barrels of his sawed-off shotgun on El Malo, Butch's hired gun, and the Laredo Tornado killing both of them instantly. Seeing he was clearly outmatched Billy dropped his gun and announced he had had enough.

Deadeye Denton took careful aim and dealt the Duke another serious wound. He then dove for cover behind the sheriff's office wall. Hearing the shots in the street Two-Gun Terrence, the town sheriff named in honor of my gaming group's leader, raced out into the street. During the lull in the fighting Alexander reloaded his shotgun. Deadeye Denton tried to backshoot Terrence but the Sheriff heard him and whirled around firing both revolvers. Both shot at once.

picture

Deadeye Denton missed but Terrence shot him dead. Frisco Kid became a Legend of the west for killing three men. Duke survived wounds that would have killed lesser men, and Alexander and Terrence got through the fight unscathed.

Billy was tried and hanged.

Thanks, my dad and I reinforced them with coffee stirers and tooth picks to make them more rigid then we mounted them on cardboard or a special corrugated sticky board.

Very nice. Are those Dixon?

Mr Brightside20 Jun 2009 11:18 a.m. PST

Thanks, yes a few are dixon. The two men in front of the marshal are dixon as is the bartender and the Billy the Kid miniature. The rest are Artizan and the Duke is a Crusader miniature.
