We really need a good 15mm, 1/100 scale Huey helicopter for Vietnam games.

The only one I have seen was QRF I think… resin… and it was abominably awful, in sculpting, in casting, in every way.

Yeah, those Corgi 1/144 Hueys look good with 15mm… and as a lot of online shops are unloading them at $5 USD each, you can grab enough birds to insert a whole company if you want to…

And the Model Power 1/87 Huey gunships look fine with 15mm as well…

But it would be nice to have a 15mm Huey made for gaming, with open doors for gunners and such.

*sigh*

Flashpoint Miniatures said on Fields of Fire that they were going to be releasing Hog's and Slicks, not sure when the release date is though.

VonTed19 Jun 2009 9:34 a.m. PST

There are corgi's that are spot on for 1/100….. atleast according to the 1/100 scale model I held it up against.

I was going to recommend this over at Scalecreep link but it appears that he's out of them.

Ditto for this: link

But now you know where to look – or at least what to look for.

Yep, Wyatt, those are the very Corgi and Model Power birds to which I refer.

I like them both fine – in fact those two exact versions are the Hueys in my forces, though there are others with different markings available – but as I mentioned, I'd love to have some actual gaming models, with modeling options, like keeping the doors open for gunners, and such.

A quick note on the Model Power birds: I discovered through a fortuitous accident that the doors on these Hueys CAN easily be popped off. But they have rocket pods on the skids and are really attack craft and not transports…

Unfortunately, the doors on the Corgi models cannot be popped out, accidentally or otherwise. Which may be just as well; the ships would be a tad too small to accomodate 15mm grunts inside, or crew in the doorways.

Mark clearanced them a month or so back. I picked up two of them.

As Buzzard said, the Flashpoint ones should be coming along soon. They've been updating pretty regulary on the Field Of Fire Forum. Looks like they have some great stuff coming along!

Old Glory UK makes a 1/100 scale Huey link

Wyatt the Odd Fezian19 Jun 2009 1:59 p.m. PST

I'll stick to my Roco 1/87 scale ones. I've got plenty of them, some Cobras and a pair of HH-53Ds.

Wyatt -

I am envious you have some Roco Hueys. All of my old Roco stuff – mostly from when I was a kid in the 70's – seems to be a perfect fit, scale-wise, for the current interpretations of what is 15mm.

Italieri make a very nice pre-painted Huey in 1/100/. Got mine (13) by mail order from UK. Alan

Revell used to make one – not sure if they still do. Doors were optional so mine have peter pig gunners.

There is a picture of one on the "From the Delta to the DMZ" rules website.

Buy them at Hobby Link Japan. Its not the smaller gunship version, but you can get thoses from ebay or better from Kingkit. (Kingkits stock can vary, I don't think they have any of the Tamiya Hueys at the moment) Links below

You can get the UH-1D by Revell in 1/100 or by Aoshima. The Revell ones have to be gotten on ebay as they don't make 'em any more. As Von mentioned the Aoshima ones show upon HLJ every once in a while.
As for the UH-1B these can be got from Revel, but VERY rare, and by Tamiya. I have 2 of the Revel and 2 of the Tamiya. Checking ebay every now an then I see more Tamiya B's that Revel.

The Flashpoint 15mm 1/100 Hueys are scheduled for release before Christmas this year, hopefully late November at worst.

GeoffQRF04 Sep 2009 5:32 a.m. PST

Photos of the QRF Huey now online: link

I'll get the painted version up soon… hopefully!

Hoplite Fezian08 Sep 2009 6:23 a.m. PST

I can vouch for George's service. I bought a whack of 1/100 Revell Hueys off him and I'm as happy as a clam. I didn't know you had MORE!

Every time I look for Hueys there is one "available" source.

Corgi's cannot be had; anyone who carried them is out of stock.

To mention Battlefront is like saying you can get get one made in solid gold: 60.00. That's not a gaming mini it's a display piece.

I don't know where anyone got the idea that Flashpoint makes them. Not even on their site a year later.

It's always QRF whose resin casts are described as junk.

And there are no pictures of their Huey's on their site. There are no pictures anywhere as far as I can tell.

July 2010.

That should go straight to the photo.

Etranger21 Jul 2010 10:24 p.m. PST

BF is probably $60 USD for 3. Thats roughly what I paid for the 3 pack.

GeoffQRF21 Jul 2010 11:59 p.m. PST

Roger says he just gets a blank link on the website and via the direct photo link I provided above… is anyone else having problems seeing the photo of the Huey?

GeoffQRF22 Jul 2010 2:15 a.m. PST

I don't know where anyone got the idea that Flashpoint makes them. Not even on their site a year later.

Probably from TailEnd Charlie's announcement "The Flashpoint 15mm 1/100 Hueys are scheduled for release before Christmas". He is the Flashpoint owner.

The Battlefront pack is $60 USD for 3, not each. Ours is $13.75 USD from Scale Creep or £8.00 GBP direct from us (but you don't get the decals…) ;-)
