Pat Ripley Fezian is after something that has presence, that actually looks like a small stand of tropical bushes, and is cheap, tough and portable.

But I still have money left!!!!

It seems a lot of us are far from truthful with our other halves when it comes to our hobby spending then. Altogether lets practice

"Oh those old figures darling I've had them years"

"Yes they do look very new, but thats just becuase they've been in a draw for the last few years. Thats why you haven't seen them before too."

"Credit Card statement? Oh I didn't want to bother you with that darling. Thats why I went straight out to pay this morning, as soon as the postman dropped it of. Then I shredded the statement for safety reasons. Nothing for you to worry about dear."

hwarang19 Jun 2009 3:17 a.m. PST

still in the A range, probably…
maybe will get into the B range soon…

I've been doing this a long time, so E, particularly if you include books.

Building an extension on the house which now mysteriously mostly contains my wargaming stuff ups the overall bill a bit;-)

It is safe to say I could probably retire today if I sold everything at even half value. Easily. Of course, I have a 32+ year accumulation.

Historicalgamer19 Jun 2009 5:05 a.m. PST

Way beyond anything resembling sanity….

I started in the hobby around 1971 or so. My ACW book reference library is over 500 books alone. Over some 38 years I am will over E. For the past several (15 or so) I have been spending around $3,600 USD a year. figure that alone puts me at 50K

Having worked at a few miniatures companies = Free figs! wink It's hard to work out.
If only I'd worked for GW, Hasslefree, Copplestone castings, Kallistra, Foundry…sigh.

mweaver19 Jun 2009 5:43 a.m. PST

Oh, about G. But I have been working on it 30 years or so

"She would come home to a different battle every day"

I do that just by being married. Im probably in the A category, maybe B. I have been doing this for 20+ years but a lack of disposable income keeps it in sane levels.

This is totally slanted against gamers like me that have been at this over decades.

Martin Rapier19 Jun 2009 5:56 a.m. PST

I'm not sure a high score is a bad thing, but perhaps average annual expenditure would be more useful otherwise it is just an indication of age.

What sort of inflation adjustment do we need to consider though, 6/- in 1970 are worth a lot more than 30p now and relative to gross income it is even more.

raylev319 Jun 2009 6:48 a.m. PST

I'm probably A pushing into B territory (ok, maybe I'm a B)….but as far as my wife's concerned, I haven't even reached A yet. Heck, who am I kidding.

Frankss19 Jun 2009 7:19 a.m. PST

E, spend a lot on books.

richarDISNEY19 Jun 2009 7:25 a.m. PST

I think I am more in the G or H range…

so keep going on you alpha chart…

E -- easily.

I have probably spent an average of $100 USD a month for 40 years.

Should the total figure include my bartab at gaming conventions?

religon19 Jun 2009 12:03 p.m. PST

I'm an E if you include bail and legal fees.

adster19 Jun 2009 1:05 p.m. PST

As a hobby it is very useful in the hard times it is possible (sortov) to reduce spending to almost nil and just plough into the lead mountain!

As to the question I am claiming the fifth amendment rights despite not being a Yank!

Who asked this joker19 Jun 2009 1:16 p.m. PST

After 35 years…dunno…D maybe? Maybe only C. Nah. Probably D.

Buff Orpington19 Jun 2009 1:41 p.m. PST

Whatever it is I'm off to Phalanx tomorrow so it will be £200.00 GBP more in 24 hours.

Lentulus19 Jun 2009 6:01 p.m. PST

A I expect. I took a long break.

coopman19 Jun 2009 6:19 p.m. PST

I never want to know, nor do I want any of my family to find out either. I'm too young to die and besides, I've got way too much unpainted stuff still.

svsavory20 Jun 2009 7:50 a.m. PST

After 35 years of gaming, I'm off the chart (E+).

As a young teenager in the 1970's, I spent most of my paper route money on games, so when expressed as a percentage of annual income, my hobby spending has actually dropped over the years. That demonstrates fiscal responsibility, right? Right?

Timmo uk23 Jun 2009 9:00 a.m. PST

Perhaps £5K dunno really though.

darclegion23 Jun 2009 10:40 a.m. PST

ok, I feel better, and I have had that…oh thats been on the shelf for years, youve never seen that before?

No, my wife takes inventory of my stuff…we car pool…so getting any mail past her any more, is impossible. Ordering is no problem…its the recieving part that I have to work on…

But Im the "rather ask for forgiveness than permission" …kinda guy…

Valator26 Jun 2009 11:02 p.m. PST

I don't differentiate between video games, wargaming, and roleplaying games. They all just bleed together in one big Geekfest, so I'll go with the "E" option

Uesugi Kenshin Supporting Member of TMP27 Jun 2009 2:40 a.m. PST

'Bout $100-200 per month for the last 20 years-ish.

So I guess that would be "E"-ish.

stenicplus29 Jun 2009 8:49 a.m. PST

Hmmm. Motivated my to start itemising my gaming stuff.

Rules and figures only so far come out at over £6,500.00 GBP

On top of that will be terrain and scenery and of course paint, glue and brushes etc…

A usefull exercise for insurance purposes.
