I mean totally…since you began the hobby…approximately, on anything to do with the hobby, minis, terrain, buildings, painting, etc.

A. $1,000 USD to $5,000 USD
B. $5,001 USD to $10,000
C. $10,001 to $15,000
D. $15,001 to $20,000
E. $20,001 plus

my answer is way above D. I luckily collected most of it inbetween marriages…I was lucky. I could fall into the E catagory if I dont watch my step, or rather Im really close. I mean I am only 39, so I have a ways to go. And my wife games….so….

Palafox18 Jun 2009 2:24 p.m. PST

I do not dare to count.

Personal logo Saber6 Supporting Member of TMP Fezian18 Jun 2009 2:28 p.m. PST

Annually?

BigLee18 Jun 2009 2:28 p.m. PST

Catagory C possibly D

I'm married to a very understanding wife.

Prince Rupert of the Rhine18 Jun 2009 2:29 p.m. PST

not enough…….

Monkey Hanger Fezian18 Jun 2009 2:31 p.m. PST

Never kept a close track of it but I'd probably state D/E with the total being closer to E.

I too have a very understanding Wife

Connard Sage18 Jun 2009 2:33 p.m. PST

Less than I've spent on my other hobbies over the years

Palafox18 Jun 2009 2:34 p.m. PST

I choosed my home because of the attic which is now my wargaming and painting HQ and the basement for storing boxes of wargames, figures and airbrush (that was the main reason I wanted this house), so I'm not sure if I should count part of the house as "wargaming expenses".

Calico Bill18 Jun 2009 2:39 p.m. PST

I'd guess at C. Throw in books & magazines and it'd be up to D. Then again, I've been at it for 44 years, so it averages out quite cheaply.

The Tin Dictator18 Jun 2009 2:42 p.m. PST

I'm sure I'm well beyond E.

If I die first, I'm sure my wife will want to kill me when she begins to sort it all out and finds out what its worth.

Luckily I have plenty of unpainted stuff so I'm guaranteed a long life.

wehrmacht18 Jun 2009 2:48 p.m. PST

As I tell my wife, I have probably spent in excess of $100 USD on gaming, but I haven't sat down and figured it out precisely.

mad monkey 118 Jun 2009 3:00 p.m. PST

C-ish.

darclegion18 Jun 2009 3:03 p.m. PST

Yea, if I die, same here ,my wife is going to be busy on ebay….but has no idea of the values. I should write it down, put it in the will…but why on earth would she sell it…I figure I could haunt the game room for a few years. She would come home to a different battle every day.

IF (BUG if) I ever sat down and tried to figure it, probably E. That would include Con expenses too. But I'd divide that by almost 40 years of gaming.

darclegion18 Jun 2009 3:06 p.m. PST

The total is for since you began wargaming, not annually. In your lifetime so far.

darclegion18 Jun 2009 3:07 p.m. PST

Yea, not enough here too…haha.
tom

Pictors Studio18 Jun 2009 3:15 p.m. PST

It must be close to $80,000 or more in the last 6-7 years if you count everything.

Neotacha18 Jun 2009 3:17 p.m. PST

Between us, Michael and I are clearly in the E category. Heaven help whomever has to sort this all out when we die.

Lord Hypnogogue18 Jun 2009 3:24 p.m. PST

If you count novels related to 40k, Ospreys, meals eaten while at game days, and related expenses, Somewhere in the $1,000 USD area.

Friggin' noob, I am.

MDIvancic18 Jun 2009 3:26 p.m. PST

I'm in the "C" to "D" range myself. I'm glad the wife doesn't read this site.

ming3118 Jun 2009 3:28 p.m. PST

Does that include diiner while at coventions , rooms board travel , the rehab of the basement to make a miniature workshop? then lot's and lots more

Rdfraf Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 3:36 p.m. PST

You need more a lot more categories. There are many of us that have literal fortunes in miniatures and terrain

T Callahan18 Jun 2009 3:42 p.m. PST

I don't dare count it up, my wife may find out and cut my access to any of our accounts off.

E+++++ etc…

Custer7thcav18 Jun 2009 4:00 p.m. PST

E if you count the over 30 years of the hobby (starting at around 8 with toy soldiers until now at 42 with toy soldiers LOL

thatotherguy18 Jun 2009 4:00 p.m. PST

Not nearly enough! All those shiny pretties left to acquire and they keep making more/shinier!

chuck05 Fezian18 Jun 2009 4:12 p.m. PST

You forgot one:

F: Gross National Product of Turkmenistan

Definately F!

Personal logo 20thmaine Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 4:16 p.m. PST

E, easily, don't know how much more… it's that 30+ years that do it.

but that's counting everything – figures, board games rpg's, magazines, convention fees, books etc

Cold Steel18 Jun 2009 4:17 p.m. PST

I probably have E in the same room right now.

When my wife and I first married, she thought my hobby was rather strange and tried talking me out of it a couple of times. Then she went with me to a major con, where I ran a flea market table all weekend. Sold $8,000 worth of stuff. She never complained again.

McWong7318 Jun 2009 4:28 p.m. PST

E

Personal logo Silurian Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 4:36 p.m. PST

Yikes, even a quick guestimation puts it well into E (and F!) But I've been at it for a while…

(darling wifey, as understanding and supportive as she is, has nooooo idea!)

Militia Pete18 Jun 2009 4:43 p.m. PST

I'd say at least A. I lost count some time ago. I started late….

galvinm18 Jun 2009 4:50 p.m. PST

Easily E. I probably have more gaming stuff than I have invested in the house. When I go (I know I'm going first), I hope the wife researches what it's all worth. Then she'd be set for life. Very, very understanding wife. Course, we met when I was a 20yo Marine. So this keeps me at home at night and out of trouble, except for my mouthing off when things get me upset.

Sundance18 Jun 2009 5:13 p.m. PST

Over the years, B or C category…

nudspinespittle Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 5:16 p.m. PST

You really need to increase your scales. I've been buying mini's since 1980 when I was 14. E many times over.

Personal logo McKinstry Supporting Member of TMP Fezian18 Jun 2009 5:28 p.m. PST

30+ years and counting, easily a multiple of E.

Personal logo John the OFM Supporting Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 6:17 p.m. PST

I refuse to answer on the grounds that
1) I don't want to know.
2) I REALLY don't want to know.

rmaker18 Jun 2009 6:26 p.m. PST

I'll second that, John.

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 6:48 p.m. PST

Dude…I invented Bongolesia and wrote the original rules for Gutshot….what does this tell you????

Does this also take into effect, gas for conventions, fees, hotels rooms, booze for the gf, etc?

Syrinx018 Jun 2009 7:43 p.m. PST

First thought is that I don't want to know. Pure gaming materials bought (minus what was sold) would put me in B or C at the worst. Lets leave the what I bought to drink out of the total…

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP18 Jun 2009 7:45 p.m. PST

Very scary question. I assert my 5th amendment rights to self incrimination.
;-D

Thanks,

John

Whatisitgood4atwork18 Jun 2009 7:46 p.m. PST

Um… let's see. Been back in the hobby since about 01. Maybe spend 2-3,000 a year (ish, maybe more some years and maybe less some). So easily in the D – E range just there.

And climbing of course. I haven't spent much at all in the last 18 months with moving to a new country and all, but I splashed out and just spent another $500 USD odd last night on some Perry and Alban figures. I bought some portable tables to use as a wargame table and ordered a mat and some terrain from The Terrain Guy last week, so add $400 USD there. The new figs will have to be painted so there's another $1,000 odd there…

So I'd guess at E and rising.

Goldwyrm18 Jun 2009 8:00 p.m. PST

I've been gaming for 25 years, so I'd guess E with a force multiplier of at least 4-5.

Warlord18 Jun 2009 8:19 p.m. PST

You need more catagories!

I am WEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL above the E catagory.

And maybe a rating system:

A. $1,000 USD to $5,000 USD – ROOKIE
B. $5,001 USD to $10,000 – AVERAGE
C. $10,001 to $15,000 – VETEREN
D. $15,001 to $20,000 – MATURE
E. $20,001 to – MENTAL
F. DARE NOT TO BE MENTIONED – NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR

Hey, maybe the Editor should do a poll in this?

Sterling Moose18 Jun 2009 9:05 p.m. PST

Nothing. The fairies bring me gifts of lead while I sleep. That's what I tell the wife anyway and I think I've gotten away with it!

Stosstruppen18 Jun 2009 9:19 p.m. PST

I am certain this type of question falls under

D or E ? never kept count but been gaming since the early 60's.

La Long Carabine18 Jun 2009 9:40 p.m. PST

Maybe $100 USD to $250 USD a year over 30 plus years. $3,000 USD to $7,500. USD I am lagging behind. I'd better get out and buy some stuff to keep up with the Jones. I need to buy more toys and stuff. :-)
