Built this model 41 years ago!
Finally got around to "flying" it yesterday.

Outstanding, King Cobra! What scale?

This is the old Monogram 1/48 scale kit, isn't it?

King Cobra11 Jun 2009 6:50 p.m. PST

I'm sure it's 1/48 but it has been so many years I'd have to investigate the manufacturer. Thanks for the lead, gamertom.

Definitely the old Monogram kit, which was re-re-re-released by Revell-ogram and is still available. Now if they would repop the TBF, F6F and SB2C.

King C,

Do you recall the price you paid for the wonder? Just wondering.

If I were to guess, two weeks worth of paper route money earned by delivering the "Chicago American" newspaper?!

Looking at these new images of an old favorite brings a couple of things to mind.

1) I used to be afraid of ruining a model by tackling the painting of the canopy frame.

2) Not dusting a model for many years can give the aircraft a weathered effect I can't seem to reproduce with a brush!
