Here you go-->
first pictures of the recently painted guys! Sorry for the bad picture quality…
Anyways, not necessarily historically accurate, just based conveniently. Legionaire in the red, serving as a charge marker. Auxilaries (yes, I know, same figure, different colors) in the beige/cream. Command stand in all its glory. 16 more legionaires ready to be based. Just a simple one coat of paint (except white on beige and light skin tone over dark) and a GW wash of Devlan mud. Based on washers with vallejo pumice I think. Flocked, and voila!

Enjoy,
John

Howard from WF here. I've just been painting 180 of these guys myself, for my "Clash of Iron" demo at Historicon.

The Romans were our very first figures, and something of a tribulation for a new company. The first guy we got to do mould design – a fella in England with a good reputation – fouled up the software files, so we had them redone, and they came out very shiny. Eek! Once assembled and primed they paint up nicely, although (as I work on them together with our new Numidians and Germans) it's clear we've come a long way.

Here are Scott McPhee's versions of the Romans:

And here are Jeff Jonas' Romans:

And – rather less impressively – are mine from last year:

(Note to self – the macro setting makes your figures 6" tall, shows all the cat hair and suggests that you paint detail with a broom while drunk)

MJS, In regards to our earlier conversation you've certainly lived up to your end. I'm very impressed with the speed your releases are coming out at now, and in particular wanted to compliment you on not doing the Zulus in their ceremonial regalia, but properly 'stripped for battle' instead.

I look forward to seeing what you guys come out with next, kudos!

Very nice work.

Just a small point, and sorry to be picky but this is TMP(!), it is 'legionary' not 'legionaire'. Legionaires are foreigners in the French army.

I'm just jealous 'cos your painting is way superior to mine…..
