Anyone have link to some top-down view Napoleonics suitable for making counter/stands? I am doing some playtesting of some rules and don't want to rebase my real troops for a playtest. I found a couple of web sites that allow you to print out stand-up cut outs which I guess could work, but I would prefer a top-down view so I can just print the image out and stick it on a proper-sized base.

Thanks,

Dave

How are you with graphical manipulation. I've done some top down masters for Junior General. I've posted the Artillery to the site already…a while ago.

I could get you the infantry and cavalry if you like. They are in the same form. You must make/color your own.

Top Downs for all periods

I've got a load off JG- they have mnasters, and it doesn't take long to put a counter together.

My recommendation is make your counters up into a block on a photo sized Jpeg- remember you need to leave a margin. So on a 6x4/15cm x 10cm you can get 4x3 30mm counters (like I said, margin.

You have a jpeg for infantry, one for cavalry, etc

Put onto SD card etc and get printed at your nearest cheapo kiosk. I dont know about the US, but prices start from 20p each (30c) for 1-49 prints, down to 5p for 200+ (if you get 12 counters per photo that is 2400 'bases' for $15 USD of your yankee dollars) Check out prices before hand, because from the site I was quoting (Boots the Chemist) it makes more sense to buy 50 @ 12p each than 49 at 20p!

You just get 5 of that jpeg, 10 of that one, etc.

The reason is
1)top downs use a LOT of Green- print on green paper is no good, especially for Austrians!
2)less hammering on a standard home printer
3)Better quality

Think about it. How much does ink cost? I can get 50 photos for less than 1 cartridge.

Now after picking up your photos (and getting odd looks in the shop) stop by a home improvement store, and buy their budget self adhesive floor tiles (B&Q- 6 30cm x 30cm tiles £2.50)

Trim your photos (DO NOT CUT UP THE COUNTERS, just the margin) and mount on the BACK (sticky side) of the tile. This gives a nice weight to the base- similar to a casino chip.

1 tile = 100 30mm bases- say 81 (9x9) to allow for error.

Now the most difficult bit- gut up the counters- You need big scissors or a decent guillotine- though my one seems ok (Lidl's £12)

So (assuming 30mm approx 1 1/8" square bases)

1 pack tiles- £2.50 GBP give enough room to mount 6 photos each- 36 photos (£7.20), at 12 bases per photo – 432 bases

For £20.00 GBP you could do two HUGE armies that can be easily transported.

I'm doing two ACW armies for my kids like this.
