Hi,

Im working on a new basing scheme and also some terrain. The look I want is summer field grass with small ammounts of yellow (burnt grass) and bit of blossom. When done right I think this is the best look you can get.

I dont want it to be too sickly however. Dont like the standard bright greens you get.

How would you suggest adding burnt grass/yellow to a game matt/figure base that already has green static grass on it?

Bleech!

Dilute it 10:1 with water and 'drybrush' it on. This leaves green at the base and dry yellow tops… just like my lawn.

I've used this technique myself but you may have to experiment to get it to work on the type of static grass you have.

Similar to Big Lee, bleach a batch of your green static grass and mix with the original colour. Where you need more yellow just add clumps of the bleached grass.

You can also dry-brush the green static grass (after it is glued to your base!) with yellow and brown.

I do it differently and buy burnt grass flock from Woodland Scenics ( woodlandscenics.com ) and sprinkle it all over or in concentrated places after I use either green or blended green. It looks pretty good.

The static grass I start with looks like something straight out of an easter basket. To tone it down, I use a wash of olive drab, followed by drybrushing light brown and then drybrushing golden yellow.

You can see an example of the technique here:

GF9 makes a great yellow grass you can mix in. I use it on my Zulus.

This is what I described above, which is not static grass.

Woodland Scenics does have a faded static grass though and here's some of it "in action" (though I can never get it to stand up straight):

Maybe you can get some of this and sprinkle it around on your existing stands?
