HMGS-East is Historical Miniatures Gaming Society, East. There are scores of affiliated clubs that are part of the HMGS "family." THe "East club is the largest.

The Historicon convention is financed and run by the HMGS-East. The organization has contracted to move the convention to Baltimore, so the poll asks whether HMGS East members are happy with the move or not. THe debate seems to be around whether other, non-HMGS, members should be included in the poll. I for one don't mind the inclusion of non-HMGS-East gamers in the polling, but the questions should be broken down so that specific information may be extracted to determine whether HMGS members--the driving force behind the convention--are happy with the move.

"I for one don't mind the inclusion of non-HMGS-East gamers in the polling, but the questions should be broken down so that specific information may be extracted to determine whether HMGS members--the driving force behind the convention--are happy with the move."

Could you clarify if by "the driving force behind the convention" you mean HMGS members regardless of chapter, or solely HMGS-East members?

"You may want to limit or label responses for HMGS-East members and non-HMGS-East members since other hmgs chapters run their own cons."

Some do, some don't. Does an HMGS member from a chapter other than HMGS-East, whose chapter does not put on major shows, but who travels to an HMGS-East show and receives the benefits of an HMGS member, count in your vision of the poll?

Let's return to the original post that started the poll suggestion topic. I'm going to bold one part.

Let's keep it simple. In your heart of hearts whether you particularly wanted to move or willing to go along because it's a done deal and assuming it cannot be recalled. You should vote yea or nay. Please no arguments, no discussions, no explanations, no interchanging thread killing conversations, Please! All HMGS-East members should vote and outside HMGS East members who attend Historicon. Aren't you curious after all the discussion to know how many want to go? Vote as if it was your decision to make. One vote per member. I say Nay.

I'm interpreting that the goal was to get the input of those who attend or have attended Historicon, both inside and outside HMGS-E. "how many want to go?" is the question. I'm still thinking method B that I had suggested represents a useful poll and it is only 6 options…

…but I'm open to further opinions on that.

Apologies to PaintsByNumbers, I Pat Cod, doug redshirt, civildisobedience, OBLIQUECHARGE, Pat Condray, mbsparta, and Disco Joe who are not currently being permitted to post their opinions on this.

Reminder

In the interest of bringing this poll discussion to closure, I am asking that you only post to this discussion if you have something to discuss about the poll.

If you just want to discuss the move to Baltimore, please adjourn to one of the other topics available.

Yes!!!

Somewhere upthread Toby Barrett (MASTER CASTER) the former Witch Finder General of HMGS EAST posted an attack message against me which had nothing to do with the thread. Only his oft repeated mantra that the CONSENSUS BOD of 1995-97 and the CYABOD of 1997-2000 saved HMGS EAST from the "Old Guard" (founding members.)

Since none of that had anything to do with the move to Baltimore I've posted my response in an HMGS HISTORICAL ISSUES entry on the clubs message boards.

Anyone interested in such matters may consult that post and comment as they see fit.

I recall you started that scrap on this thread eventhough it had nothing to do with the topic.
This is what someone wanting to join HMGS and going to a convention looks forward to? I vote no.

An apt metaphor, perhaps: YouTube link

My censored post commented on the general gaming public, HMGS EAST members, and other HMGS members, which are the three categories related directly to whom might be allowed to vote in a poll.

yes

I think we should have a pole about taking a pole.

The questions could include:

1. Would you participate in a pole?

2. Have you ever taken a pole before?

3. What about Czechs?

I am sure there are other questions we could add to the pole about whether to take a pole. Or not. ;-)

Let's just censor every post and ban anyone who speaks.

Clarification: Since all members in good standing may post on forums, I erred in trying to make this an HMGS thread if I'm not mistaken. So it is open to everyone who actually wants to vote. Hope this helps. And it would be good to close this and get some kind of answer. I think I'm done.
