I as looking at this yesterday and pondering if it was any use for dunklegelb (in 28mm). Anyone tried it? |

use it over a dark primer, then ensure you wash the whole vehicle to dull it down a bit (black oil wash is best) – then its fine, especially with camouflage detail over it. over a white primer or left as-is then it is a bit too bright. |

"use it over a dark primer" pretty pointless using it then, seeing as it IS a primer already. |

I use it with a GW flesh wash over the dunkelgelb coat. Then the details. |

"use it over a dark primer" pretty pointless using it then, seeing as it IS a primer already. Actually it is neither pointless nor a true primer. Its called a "primer" but its really just normal spray paint, not a proper "primer", so its better called a 'basecoat'. as with all paints if you want a good adhesion to metal then you should use a proper primer before painting. And if you use a white primer it lightens the yellow too much. Thus, as i said previously: use over a dark primer, then use a dark wash. How do you use it BravoX? |

To quote the ArmyPainter web site:
Colour Primers: An ingenious combination of Primer and Colour Spray in one. The Colour Primers unique formula has been designed to be used on all metal, plastic and resin miniatures and leaves a perfect finish. The extra-fine pigment and special nozzle combination makes the Colour Primers easily cover the first time. The colours are extremely matt, making your freshly sprayed miniatures or models ready for basecoat almost right away. Save both time and money. No need for 2 different sprays – all you need is 1 Colour Primer for perfect results. All primers are Acrylic based, matt and dries very quickly.
So I guess in light of you comments someone should contact them and tell them they need stop making false claims before the get sued by customers who bought they product expecting it to be as described. and yes if what you say is correct then it is still very pointless
Why would anyone pay a premium to buy a primer+color only to find its just a color and have to then buy a primer anyway, even more so when according to your first comment its not the right shade, might as well find the right shade of color spray from some other source like in the first place. |

Krylon suoer Flat camo tan is a great undercoat for German Armor. Use it them wash and highlight. it's a true single color use. T |

So I guess in light of you comments someone should contact them and tell them they need stop making false claims before the get sued by customers who bought they product expecting it to be as described. Seems like an ideal job for you BravoX – you appear to have just the right amount of wit and charm, plus your in-depth knowledge of google-fu, to be able to convince them right off the bat that you are a true winner! Why would anyone pay a premium to buy a primer+color only to find its just a color ,
.because its quicker and cheaper than buying and using an airbrush? Oh dear! Whoops, there I go again. Saying things which are my own opinion before checking them out with you first! Tsh now! What a silly little girl i am. I must remember not to do things that you dont agree with, as it clearly makes me such a silly blonde! Time to get some more straw i guess? Mind you, dare i ask about your own experience with this colour? I did ask that before however you seemed to skilfully avoid answering. Clearly that wouldnt be because you have never used it, because if that were so then the only reason you are in this thread is to try to use your charm, wit and good-natured helpfulness to gain yet another stifle? Ah heck, I wouldnt want to spoil your day by being overtly nasty, brutish and pig ignorant just for the hell of it, so here you go – a nice new stifle all of your own! (_|_)O |

KatieL, I thought you used an airbrush, but possibly I'm mistaken. |
| KatieL | 26 May 2009 5:13 a.m. PST |
I *have* an airbrush, I now also have a compressor. But I haven't actually painted anything with it yet, because I a) haven't bought any paints and also b) haven't found time to sit and do the "learning to use it" exercises. |
| Palafox | 26 May 2009 5:36 a.m. PST |
Funnily enough several of the best spaniard painters of tanks recognised to me that they did not made those exercises at all and after just painting some lines with it to get a little hold of the "push and pull" thing they began painting a tank inmediately. But they didn't showed the results of those first tries. |

Army Painter colored primer not a primer? That's news to me, seeing how I used it on three different armies (WM, 40K & WHECW) with no problem (and that's just the red color.) It covered, well, there was no problem with the other paints (GW & VMC)adhering or covering, in fact I like the stuff, it's a real time saver. While I cannot comment on the dark yellow, I can state that I have had excellent results with the red as both a primer and basecoat
Here's some pics of the end result: picture picture picture picture |

So, setting aside its primerness or alleged lack thereof, is it a good colour for Dunkelgelb? |
| Ravenwood | 28 May 2009 4:34 p.m. PST |
I went & bought a can to test out, & I would say that IMO, it appears too light to be dunkelgelb, but a wash should tone it down enough, provided you were going for an ambush camo type scheme. Alone, it appears too light for that, it is more like Afrika Korps type paint scheme yellow. applying it over black might help. |
