The link above will take you to an account of the recent battle between the Government forces of King George versus the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie: the Battle of Culwhinic Moor. The game was played last weekend (4 players) and took about 3 hours to play, so it was short, bloody and decisive. The rules used were Bill Protz's "Batailles de l'Ancien Regime" or "BAR" with modifications made for the Forty Five.

Ahhh, they're all a bunch of Atholls.

I'm glad I don't live near you Jim. All my 24 figure battalions would be so inadequate.

Thank you for the great game write up. A great period to wargame. Not enough interest in this period. It is a shame, because it offers so many great battle ideas.

More on the game is here, Campaigns In Germania blog.

Excellent write ups on both blogs! Very inspirational….
But Gentlemen – it is Hanoverians against Jacobites, NOT Scottish against British.

I must talk my wife into moving to your neck of the woods. While admiring your blog I always feel like a kid who just gets to see photos of Disneyland without ever going!

I tried to use the term Government Forces, but may have slipped into a few bad habits that are well ingrained. evil grin. Ian may have been referring to the battle report version on the Campaigns in Germania blog site written by le Comte d'Artois

John OFM: all you need to do is push two of your battalions together and you have one that is the size that we use.

But ADF – which government? The redcoated Irish troops were in direct continuity with the pre-1689 British army.
Hanoverians versus Jacobites – it is a dynnastic war! In the small army Jacobite at Culloden I reckon they had 300 Englishmen, 500 Irishmen and 50 Frenchmen – balance Scots (50% Highlanders).

PS How do I send you a 28mm figure over for the next battle?
