I am interested in doing the Herero conflict. I am not sure if I will do it in 15mm or 28mm. I would be interested in knowing of any companies who do German Colonial and especially Hereros outside of Tiget Miniatures in 15mm or 28mm.

I thought of doing this conflict and if I do it will be in 28mm I will use Sword and the Flame rules you can put alot of troops on the field with those rules and Tiger has great figs.

A friend of mine is writing a Skirmish Campaigns book about that conflict. It's an incredible bit of research and writing he has done, with much of the primary sources being the first hand German documents about the battles.

I think he may be trying to release it by Historicon.

He did have trouble finding some models he needed but I think he said close proxies are available in 28mm. I can't recall what rules he used but it may have been TSATF.

In 28mm there is a coprehensive list of Herreros and german Colonials, by Tiger miniatures:

Anyone know if Falcon Miniatures Germans and Herreros , from Jim Parcella (now deceased) are still available. Those figures revitalized colonial wargaming. The German figures were excellent, lots of variety and detail. Even camel riders. The natives were good too. I also filled out my armies with RFAM figures -- bare chest gaul figures with trousers with african heads. All those games back in the 80's with TSATF.

If you are in the US recreationalconflict.com just lowered their Tiger pack prices and carries Tiger miniatures full range of figures.

you've plenty of choice:
Germans: WW1 colonial Germans from Brigade Games, Riveresco,

Hereros: Foundry boers painted with black skin (the majority were mounted),Old Glory Cuban Hispano american war guerillas and boers,..with some simple native less dressed types from zulu or DA range but with rifles.

OG15s have the Germans in the appropriate uniform. Even mounted figures, standard bearer, trumpeter, etc. Paint up very nicely and a number of poses. No specific Hereros but you can buy some 15mm Boers and paint them up with a smattering of zulu type troops (the Hereos used a slightly different type of hand weapon). I only wish someone would do this figures in 10mm!

In 15mm I suggest one could use the following figures, all from Old Glory 15s. The list was suggested by Dr. Roy Jones, of The Herero Wars website fame:

If you are thinking Hereros then you really have to touch base with Roy Jones… knows more than any other two people combined about the herero Wars and he games it as 25mm. Here is a thread… TMP link
