My first attempt at a historical music video, to promote interest in military history (and, indirectly, miniature wargaming!).

Im currently painting 25mm ACW, using Perry guns and command with the bulk of the army being Sash & Saber. Im looking forward to the new releases of Old Glory 2nd edition, marching is okay but I kind of prefer the Right shoulder shift and firing poses.

Anyways Im building my regiments around Gettysburg on July 1st. I'm interested in painting the 84th New York and was curious what other people use for figures. I'm considering Old Glory Miniatures pack WBS-39. If anyone has any ideas on what figs out there work or are close enough, it would be much appreciated. (I dont see myself using Redoubt or Dixon at this point.)

I know that Dixon makes figures that work as the 14th Brooklyn, but you have to order the zouaves with kepis. They don't work out to be perfect, but they can be made to look relatively close. Also, I believe renegade miniatures would work pretty well. The 14th did not have baggy pants, and renegades figures work well on that front. Problem is that they are a little big for 28mm…

I think that I just used regular Union troops but painted the trousers and the cap red. I added a couple of zouave officers and NCOs in gaitors just to make them stand out.

First Corps used to make these figures in full uniform, I'm not sure if they still do.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, its as I suspected. I'll probably do what Der Alte Fritz has done. Although at the moment S&S and Old Glory 2nd edition Union troops are in sack coats, so I'll need to find a Union figure in a short jacket. Is the type of figure worthy of Eurekas 100 club or whatever its called?

I would suggest that you purchase Zouaves with kepis for this figure. It's about as close as you will get to the Chasseur style uniform they wore. The only other option would be some Franco-Prussian period Chasseur a pied minis, with a bit of conversion here or there.

It's important to consider the Zouave here, as the 14th Brooklyn used accoutrements similar to the M1855 rifleman's acooutrement set, where the cartridge box, shield-front cap box, and bayonet scabbard were worn on the waist belt, and no shoulder strap was used, except for canteen and haversack.

Also, extant records state that the City of Brooklyn continued to provide this style of uniform for the unit throughout it's term of service.

For more information, I would suggest you contact Chris Sullivan here:

If he hasn't got the info to hand, he certainly knows where to find it.
