Hi all,

I asked this within another thread but I think it may have been overlooked. I want to do some minis-based dungeoncrawling and "Song of Gold & Darkness" (for SoBH) and "Warrior Heroes" sound like they do this very well.

However, I'd like to be able to measure all distances for movement and range using the squares on my dungeon tiles instead of measuring inches. You know, Heroquest-ish, boardgame-style movement.

Do either of these game systems support this?

Thanks!

It's easily done, just count squares instead of inches. If you are worried about players gaining a lot of extra move by moving diagonally, then introduce house rules to limit the number of diagonal moves in a turn. Both rules sets would work with a system like that.

WHAA has dungeon generation to generate them without having to do any work before hand or using a GM and its all in inches. I'm sure SOGD could be used too.

SGD like all of our games uses 3 measuring sticks -- Short, Medium and Long -- for all measurements. No inches here! But you could use any measurement as long as:
3 short moves beat one long
2 short moves beat one medium
2 medium moves beat one long
two long moves beat any other move
I hope it's clear. I use dungeons marked in squyares but I just ignore the squares and use the three sticks instead.

SBH has rules for using hexes, so you could just change hexes to squares.

My thanks to you all for the helpful responses! I want to buy both games but for now I've started with SoBH/SoGD. I'll report back after I've had a chance to try the game.

Again, thanks very much.
