I've always seen them in the typical triangular head shape, but never one like this species: link picture link link link link link And I love that name!!! That must be a fun face/head to sculpt in 28mm and, more so, in 15mm. What do you guys think? Putty-worthy? Thanks. CC PS. Glad they are just a few inches in size. |
Rodrick Campbell | 01 May 2009 9:36 a.m. PST |
Definitely putty-worthy. Cool insect find there. |

Wow
Those are WICKED looking
I wonder if Spugs would have a chance against those? ;-) |
Rattlehead | 01 May 2009 9:59 a.m. PST |
Or maybe they'd make good mounts for Spug Cavalry? |
Cacique Caribe | 01 May 2009 10:03 a.m. PST |
With those front legs and jaws, it would make a formidable mount to the Spugs. Just make sure you start with the 15mm ones first! :) CC |

Or maybe they'd make good mounts for Spug Cavalry? I think they would be better as warriors than as mounts. The mounts for them should be from CC's earlier post. picture I can really picture this in my mind. |

Really cool – we don't have to look into the stars to find alien creatures – we just have to look into the depths, or at the little worlds all around us. I'd love to see that in putty. |

the marbled eyes are very cool! The world that exists in the undergrowth is stranger than you can imagine. I saw a cool BBC documentary the featured a type of caterpiller that uses pheromones to trick ants into taking care of it-feed it, keep it clean, etc. The ants think the caterpillar is an ant larva. The problem for the caterpillar is that there is a species of wasp that uses the caterpillar as food for its young. The wasp enters the ant's nest and sprays a pheromone that causes the ants to fight each other! While the ants fight, the wasp injects the catterpillar with an egg. After the catterpillar coccoons itself, the wasp egg hatches and the wasp larva eats the catterpillar before emerging from the coccoon as an adult wasp. |

"the marbled eyes are very cool!" Yes. In some of those photos, the eyes are almost hypnotic. CC |

Even if you put that head on a human body it would make a great alien. |
Cacique Caribe | 03 Jun 2009 11:28 a.m. PST |
Gotta put this on hold for a while, until I sort out my carpal tunnel issue. But I must give this a try at some point, even if just to sculpt the head. CC |

Looks like a Thri-Kreen from Dark Sun, there were a few in DDM, but they were kinda iffy. |
28mmMan | 18 Jul 2010 8:23 a.m. PST |
Good call Glenn, right on the money link Especially this one for the balance in body design, same number of fingers/toes, limbs maintain consistency, and a certain logic to the form
for this type, following an established body format of anthro-mantis I think this person(s) did a good job picture |
