Saw this and thought of DWW
Stopped by my local Target yesterday and they had several of the new NCC-1701 USS Enterprise toys on the shelf. It's BIG. Too big for tabletop games (unless you like using the old AMT kits!), but attractively priced at $29.00 USD USD. Plus, there were toys for the new Terminator movie. Get yer' T-600 while they last. |

I got the new Enterprise for my kids (yeah right) and I think having that fully 3d version in my hands makes me like it more that when I just had the images. The Nacelles still look a bit weird but when you can see them from many more angles, they look better than they did before. I still like the Original Series and Movie versions better, but I no longer hate this version. |

Saw the toys today. The phaser looked cheap and goofy, like a generic silver "laser blaster space gun" you find in a supermarket aisle. No small fleet scale ships. :-P |

I have seen them in a super Walmart too. Sadly, no opponents in sight, but maybe they were just cloaked

The 'new' electronic toy 1701 (bridge set 3 1/4" action figures etc) are just 'too big'/costly etc for me to collect any more. AND I agree the 'new' phaser, tricorder, communicator look more like 'toys' than 'prop copies'..(unlike the other's we've seen from the 'Original Series'
However, Matchbox will be releasing in 1/50th? scale
(similar to the Jonny Lightning 'sized' toys), ships, including the 'new' OLD 1701, the Rom/Naruda ship AND some of the 'regular', the 'D', two versions of 'Miranda' class (Reliant and Saratoga), the FIRST movie upgrade/1701A and old D7 Klingon/Bird of Prey klingon etc
They should be in stores from about the middle of May thru the end of the year
as they are being released in 'waves'
like the star wars titaniums
. Those may work better for gaming and I'm SURE someone will do smaller metal/resin versions/micromachine/ 1/3900th scale etc
later..just like the NX-01 stuff from ENTERPRISE
What I want to know, (IF anyone does know)
which 'fast food chain' is going to broker the 'kids meal toys' and IF they'll be as cruddy as some of the ACUTAL store toys are
or will we be pleasantly surprised? Slish! Sgt DWW-I'll watch the movie
.out of curiousity
but if the TOYS are any indication of the actual PROPS
.ewwwww!!! |

I saw the toy about 2 weeks ago at TRU. I think the new look sucks. This is little too curcy for me. link This looks a lot better and captures a more retro look than the new sleek and curvy thing they have settled on. Even the dish in the front has a better retro look. (scroll to the bottom) showmescifi.com/2008/05/page/2 link 8) ..Just me |

Yeah
it's pretty lame. The Enterprise-E was way better than this dreck. The guy who drew up the redesign should be skinned with his own bat'leth. |

So you're blaming the new design on the Klingons? ;) |

Well, of course. Naturally this is some kind of alien conspiracy. |

Naturally this is some kind of alien conspiracy. One of my friends postulates that the Romulans made a run at The City On The Edge of Forever, and the new movie is the result of their interference. Hey, what ever gets her to accept it is her business. As for me I will take a pass till it comes to the $2.00 USD cinema. |

I recall reading that the director wanted the movie to avoid looking like Galaxy Quest? What happened? |
