Okay it is written that no question is stupid! Well I have to disagree for this on is.

How do I convert a number like 1/1200 or 1/600 to feet. I would like to build a copy of a fort but need this. I really have never done this before.

Are you trying to scale a drawing or diagram ?

Take 1/72, which just means that an inch (for example)
which is the '1' is actually representing 72 inches.

Thus, a 72" tall person (6 feet) is 1" tall in the scale.

So take your fort. If it has a 100 foot long wall, that
would be 1200 inches, so in 1/1200 scale, the wall would
be an inch long. In 1/600 scale, it would be 2 inches.

Basically, convert your dimensions to inches, divide by
the larger of the scale numbers (1200, 600, 300, etc)
and that will give you the number of inches of whatever
dimension in your chosen scale.

Got it ?

Short answer (since the site ate my first post and Ed covered it well above)

1/600 – 1" represents 50 feet

1/1200 – 1" represents 100 feet
