From this year's Hot Lead convention in Stratford, Ontario the GNW Battle of Holocyn using 1/72 plastics. Zvezda figures for the infantry and, I believe, Strelets for the cavalry and the artillery.

I'll leave it to Mike, the GM, to explain the game, rules and battle if he'd like. But I'd point out that the bright white creatures (due to my having to artificially lighten the photos) next to some of the pictured units are sheep, signifying a morale problem with the unit.

Looks like a great game – Strelski, line infantry, dragoonski, Swedes – who won?

Strelski, line infantry, dragoonski, Swedes – who won?

I guess co-GM Nick knows I put the photos up, but might not know about this thread, yet, so I'll take a stab at describing it.

From what I saw while popping back every now and then from photographing other games, the battle was in three parts. A mounted battle on the Russians' right flank across the river or stream in front of their entrenched battery started the battle as the foot marched into position. I think it remained a fairly even contest throughout the day; and if the Russian dragoons failed to ride down the Swedish field guns to their front in multiple tries, in turn the Swedish guns seemed to have failed in destroying the Russian dragoons.

On the Russian left flank, their initial line infantry eventually succumbed to the Swedish infantry despite some success (you can see that one of the Swedish units is "sheeped") but that the front two Russian units eventually rout. The third Russian unit that was in reserve held off the two Swedish units to its front, but was taken in the flank by a third Swedish unit resulting in its rout.

About halfway through the several turns that this was playing out on the left flank, the Strelski began arriving on-table in the centre. I assume they were still in bed when the Swedish attack began or were being marched to the field from some ways off. So they began arriving and forming-up well up the centre as the left flank dissolved. I don't know from whence came the large unit of Swedish cavalry in the centre facing off against the Strelski, but the cavalry ended up being supported by the victorious Swedish foot from the Russian left.

Unfortunately, when I returned, the battle was over so I missed getting photos of how the battle in the centre ended, but I believe the Swedes also prevailed there to win the battle.

Perhaps Nick or anyone who played in the game will see this and give a better description than mine. Don't be shy guys--it doesn't cost anything to post here and you don't end up on any sp@m lists after registering.

Photos seem to have disappeared?

The slideshow is still running for me, Dave, using XP Pro and the most-recent IE--7.0 IIRC. And I haven't changed anything in my flickr account recently. Are you at work? Maybe your company is blocking access or the like.
