Can't find anything on those guys uniforms. Anyone knows if they had a unique uniform (like most princes), or did Davout just dressed his AdC's in the regulation uniforms? |

For Davout, I'd opt for regulation uniforms. Sincerely, Kevin |

I'd go for the regulation uniform. Given Davout's character he would have been unlikely to have his ADC's in anything specialy designed or fancy. In fact you might go as far as only having them in the realtively plain service dress rather than the hussar style! |

Do you have access to the Funken (Sp.?) uniform book? I do not have mine handy but I am almost positive that they have an image of one of Davout's ADC's. If my memory is not too far off, I recall thinking that the image was anything but "regulation." Good Luck. John |

I don't have access to the Funcken books unfortunately. If you or anyone else would be so kind as to double-check their edition to see if indeed there's a picture of a AdC, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll put them in regulation dress as others have suggested. Thanks! |

Arch. Charles, Yes, I have seen sources that show Col. Bourke in a distinctive ADC uniform. Hope that helps you locate the particulars. Me ke aloha, MJ |

That link does not work James, but I was able to register at armchair general and do a search for General Burke and found a plate; they were indeed very close to regulation. Thanks a lot!! |

Hi, Steven Palatka, who did the superb plates for Napoleon's Finest as well as for Napoleon's Apogee (currently at press), has started posting on line some images of his ADCs on his google group. There is one plate for Colonel Bourke in 1806. Regards, Scott Bowden |

Just had a quick look at Funcken (Uniforme et les Armes des Soldats du Premier Empire). There's ADCs in fancy uniforms for Bernadotte and Murat (no surprises there), also for Berthier and some non-specific ones, but unless I'm missing something, I don't see any Davout ADCs. |

There is a good illustration by Jaques Girbal of Davout at Auerstadt accompanied by an Adjutant-Commandant (Bourke- see above) and also a regular ADC. Both are very strictly in plain blue regulation uniforms. |

The uniform I illustrated of Marshal Davout ADC, Col. Jean Burke, is based on a plate by J.Juirbal from Hourtoulle's book L'EPOPEE NAPOLEONIENNE. It's show the 2 at Austerlitz in 1806. I believe it was after the battle that Davout was made a Prince of the empire and as a Prince could have designed his ADC's uniforms. If you go to google groups and key words napoleonic uniform paintings I have a bunch of ADC's there |

Thank you very much Steven; I just looked at your plates and these are very, very nice. Superb stuff. |

Davout was made Duke of Auerstadt and was not 'promoted' to Prince until after Eckmuhl, another fight that he won on his own in 1809. Sincerely, K |
