Looking for a biography that covers him as a man and King as well as a General and Soldier of God. Any recommendations? |

You might want to search TMP. I think someone asked about this not too long ago. |

What languages do you read? oddly enough most of the more recent biographies are written in German. In English there are a couple of works, notably Michale Roberts "Gustavus Adolphus, a history of Sweden 1611-1632" as well as Robert's translation of Nils Ahnlunds "Gustavus Adolphus the Great". Both are dated however and there has been much additonal research on the subject in the 50+ years since these books were written. There is also a number of older, 19th Century and early 20th Century works in English but these are all but useless due to a lack of proper research and a bad case of hero worship. |

There should be a number of books in Swedish – I have a couple of times browsed through "Gustav Adolf II och hans folk" in a library, but that is a more generic work about his time and does not so much concentrate on the man himself. Notice that the Gustavus Adolphus is a latinised version of the name – Swedish uses the native Gustav Adolf version. Griefbringer |

I read English, if needs be I can get by in French as well but that is about my limit. rusty, I was sure there had been threads but my search skills had deserted me and I couldn't find any. |

You may want to check: "Gustavus Adolphus", by Theodore Ayrault Dodge. It is an old book, that goes for $90 USD on Amazon as used book, or for the right price here: link Adik destofante.blogspot.com |

Archive.org has several versions of Dodge for free link Dodge is however completly useless for the serious student of history, the book is filled with errors and quite often take leave of reality as it describes events which never occured. Dodge has somehow found mysterious battles which no other historian has written about, let alone the men who actually witnessed events. |

That Dodge sounds a bit dodgy to me

Dodge's Alexander is wonderful, just not a well reseached piece of History, for that you read Robin Lane Fox. |
