Ship battlegroups are broken up into 5 classes
Class 1 are your run-of-the-mill, prettily exploding ships. They come 5 to a group. Think frigates and other small ships
Class 2 put up a bit more fight then go caploey. These are your destroyer, cruiser, and light-carriers. Two to a group.
Class 3 are your more notable ships, such as Carriers, Battleships. In this class are the Macross class ships, Bigger Star Destroyers, etc. One to a base.
Class 4 are your monster capital ships, the ones that draw a lot of fire but dish out a whole lot more. They are often flagships. In this class are Super Star Destroyers, Britai's ship, etc. These are one to a base with the base being twice as long.
Class 5 are your Mega-ships. These go from massive asteriod installations, to Death Stars and other planet crackers, up to Halos and beyond.
That's the basic organization of it. Battlegroups are further organized into Wargroups for movement and that more traditional fleet organization.
My goal is to be able to do at least 100 ships easily. With more ships being a nice slow pace, and a small amount of ships being played quickly.
I wanted a scale that was massive but not that it was so small that things were very abstracted. A sort of middle ground where each ship still played a little part.
