Until now I never had any interest in paper flats, because they seemed such a poor substitute for real miniatures. They felt "cheap." But I just noticed, courtesy of a TMP banner, a purveyor named "Billy Bones Workshop." The ACW line appears to be upcoming. The samples posted online have a look of quality, and a nice period feel. I am impressed. The artist seems to understand that paper shouldn't "compete" directly with 3D metal and plastic miniatures, but has its own unique strengths and possibilities. I don't have a dog in this fight, and I don't have a conflict of interest. It could be that there are lots of paper miniatures out there that I have not taken the time to appreciate. I just thought this website worthy of attention, if you have not seen it already: link |

It's an exciting time for paper miniatures. It's almost a whole separate hobby. |

Nice to see that that old pirate is now gainfully employed. |

Until now I never had any interest in paper flats, because they seemed such a poor substitute for real miniatures. I thought the same, but those are beautiful. I wish I could download the preview. |

Yeah, I tried downloading the preview multiple times and couldn't even get half of it to download
.makes me wonder if I could get the real product after paying for them
. (I also checked another site where I had no problem downloading a larger PDF.) |

It seems to be working now. |

I keep coming back to this issue in my little mind. I have just finished fretting over the "what scale?" conundrum for the umpteenth time in my ever aborted attempts to take the plunge into ECW/TYW. I was almost convinced to buy the new 28mm plastics when I was sidetracked yet again by the lure of 10mm and 6mm and even 2mm. It always revolves in this circle until I cut it short with the thought "when am I ever going to paint these?". In the back of my pea brain I am consumed by the fantasy of playing the Battle of the Severn (an American "ECW" scuffle fought not far from my home) at 1:1 scale. This would require about 350 – 400 miniatures and some homebrew rules. I have never taken even the first step towards actualizing my dream. Billy Bones may just be the answer I seek. I will stew and cogitate for a few more hours or days but my enthusiasm is slowly mounting. Somebody please tell Mr. Bones that I would happily purchase French and Flemish paper armies ca. 1300, another project of mine that just isn't moving forward. |
