All you Fighting Sail guys – Has anyone tried Warhammer Historical's new Trafalgar rules yet? If you have – what do you think about them and where did you purchase them (in the U.S.)? Kimball |

I ran a game with them at Proorcon on Saturday. They are pretty nice. There are a few things I'll tweak, like the critical hits table. It seems they need a different table for bow and stern rakes or at least one that doesn't cause the rudder to be shot off 1 in 6 times in the case of a bow rake. But overall I like it. The rules are simple enough and yet still give a good feeling for the period and the type of warfare. The game we did saw the French defeat the British at the Battle of the Nile. I allowed the French to have full crew compliments so it wasn't like everything was against them. Still it was a good fight and was very close. I'm excited to play in a game myself. |

I've just had two small games with my normally nongaming son (18). We found it both easy to grasp the basics and fun while genuinely providing an Age of Sail feel. I suspect we will tinker with the damage (I'm not sure fires should be that common) but overall, I think it could be a huge boost to naval gaming. Just a sidebar – I think the system could, with a few tweaks, work for the 1860-1870 Ironclad transitional period as well. |

How about one chart running from 0 to 7, with rudder destroyed as 7 and something like bow guns destroyed as 0. Shots from the bow subtract one from the roll, shots from the stern add one. |

Shots passing through the entire length of the ship from a bow rake ought to have a 1:6 chance of cutting the lines from the wheel to the rudder: sure, why not? From the folks who brought you Legends of the Old West

As does "Heart of Oak". Rules are usually better when they're written by someone with a passing familiarity with the period. |

"Rules are usually better when they're written by someone with a passing familiarity with the period." Or when they have 'proper' playtesting. |

Legends of the Old West dribble is more of a lack of information of the period so you are right there. |

"1:6 chance of cutting the lines from the wheel to the rudder: sure, why not?" Are you saying it COULDN'T happen? Come on. What about this
say it is the ship's spring cleaning day and they have removed all the wood from both ends of the ship, well if a solid shot just happened to be shot straight down these holes? Hey
it could happen. Were you there?! ;) |

"Wooden Ships & Iron Men still does it for me" That was my first thought on reading through but I've yet to play although I do like the notion of the most leeward ship moving first. Between WS&IM, Warhammer and KMH I think I'll eventually extract a set of rules I like. However the Traflagar book is a nice thing to own which is why I picked up a copy. |

Does anyone know if anyone is stocking the rules here in the States? |
