Hi Chaps/Chappesses,

As you may have noticed the Axles & Alloys site has dropped off the face of the planet. This wasn't entirely intentional but fairly indicative of the fact that over the last 12 months or so I have lost nearly all interest in wargaming. I've picked the odd magazine up and made the odd visit to TMP to see what was new but nothing has really sparked any interest in getting back into gaming. Even a visit to a UK convention last year failed to encourage me to get the brushes out or spend any money and that really is a rare occurance! I found I was only going to games and putting up with the hassle of driving across town in the Friday rush hour with a car load of fileboxes, then getting back late and unloading the car in the small hours in the interests of seeing friends rather than the game itself. So I suppose I am offically an ex-wargamer now.

Anyway I got the warning messages about my webspace needing paying for again and faced with a £70 bill for something I didn't have much interest in I basically let it go. Hopefully I have most of the material locally but wouldn't swear to it.

So basically if anybody has the rules (I'm not aware of any other online copies but I imagine there are a few 'saves' floating around somewhere) please feel free to do what you want with them. Of course you've always been free to do what you want with them, this being the nature of freeware rules, but this time you're free to take over rules development and bring out a v2 published on the web if you are so interested. Please do so with my blessings. I did learn after abandoning the site that there were a lot of players who I had never had contact with so I guess the interest in the game might have been two to three times what I thought it was. So help yerself and consider it 'Open Source'!

Godspeed, Owen. I do have a copy of your rules which I've been keeping in case you came back online; I'll make that they always give you credit as the original author, no matter what kind of v2 changes we make to them!

If anyone wants a copy of Owen's Axles and Allies rules, email me at javelin98 [at] lycos [dot] com.

Javelin98, I'll be happy to host the ruleset if you want. I have plenty of bandwidth going to waste :-)

Thank you very much, Owen!

You made a lot of us in Mexico City, really happy. You'll be in our minds and hearts. One last request, could you circulate your pics for the converted cars, so we have an album of the grizzled veterans that roamed the highway?

Whatever you do, please do come back to gaming once in a while. You know you will be very welcome.

Godspeed, sir.

P.S.: I'd say Xenoargh's offering is quite tempting. Let's get it going, people... One BIG game to salute and bid farewell for a Veteran Driver: 'The Founder' himself...

Heck, I feel I'm going to 'ruin' yet another MicroMachine and a Matchbox lookalike, and paint "THE FOUNDER" or "OWEN'S" on their hoods.

I have to beat him once, at least! =D

Cool. I'll have them up sometime between today and tomorrow... and maybe I'll even do some art for them, and give them a proper home on the web :-)

Owen, loved your site and checked it regularly. Particularly found looking at all your pics of converted vehicles most inspiring. Loved the guest gallerys too. Any chance anyone else can host the pics from Owen's site? Thanks again Owen for a great site. Already missing it.

If somebody will send them, or any of the archives, I'm sure I can do something with them :-)

Making those little battle cars to go with the game sure was fun.

I'm working on a new "home" for the game... it'll be up sometime tonight :-)
