For those that saw the TMP announcement the other day regarding Mark Copplestone's new "Glory of the Sun: 1665 – 1680" range, here are some pictures.

link

These pictures were passed on and posted on Ralphus' great blog, "Wars of Louis Quatorze" (highly recommended to those that do not already follow it!). Simply put, these are amazing figures!!! Each one looks like it was lifted from a period painting, like "The Siege of Maastricht" or "The Death of D'Artagnon". There are sneers, aristocratic poses, carefully coifed hair, touches of lace and cravattes.

Hopefully this is just the start of a complete range from Mark, with the "missing" command figures and cavalry to follow. We can only hope! Those attending Salute will have to let the rest of us know, as that's where they will be "officially" released.

Now, if someone would just do them in large 15mm ;-)

BTW, I cross-posted this to the 18th Century board because many of the gamer's there have an interest in the LoA and Dutch Wars.

Nice figures! Thanks for the link.

Fantastic sculpts. They look like they'll be a great range, if he fills it out. Nice to see Copplestone doing armies again, as opposed to "one-offs".

Beautiful. Reminiscent of the Grand Alliance series but in a more fully refined sculpting style (at least judging by what can be seen in the link). I too would like to see what the cavalry is going to look like.

Nice although I'd rather see more Back of Beyond and Darkest Africa stuff myself.

Beautiful. I know I will be buying quite a few of these

Ah ha, more figures for the Three (or four) Musketeers. I have the fantastic Forge World Lady Grey Inn and the Brigade Games figures and characters, but need a few more fodder for the foil.

Hear, hear!

I know nothing about this period and don't ever plan to game it but I must have thease figures! I went to the website and couldn't find them for sale yet!

Very nice, too bad that they are in an era in which I have no interest. WSS would be a different situation.

Paul L25 Mar 2009 7:05 p.m. PST

I wanted to get into LoA a couple years ago but settled on WSS for a lack of good figures. Now I could cry.

Those are great figures. They come at an opportune time. These will go great with Barry Hilton's new rules "Beneath the Lilly Banner". (Although I think the rules should have been named "Beneath the Dutch Tricolors" but oh well.

Now Shagnasty, you know that the 9 Years War has everything WSS and more. They have PIKES! By the way, notice that Copplestone is casting separate pikes. They look good. And, they have cowboy hats. I know they are cowboy hats because I've see Roy Roger's sidekick Gabby Hays wear one just like them, you know, the one with the brim pushed up flat in front. Not only that but your flags and buildings should work quite well for this period also.

Now I have to go and plan out my Dutch army.

Shagnasty – No interest? Just shoot me in the head! I had you down to paint six battalions of Dutch at least.

Very nice minis, indeed!

Saw these at Salute yesterday and they are superb.

Crap. I have been making leadership saves ever since I picked up "Lily Banners" on a lark when it came out…now this.

Curse you, Mark Copplestone, and your simple but elegant sculpting style!

Shootmenow11 Apr 2009 12:48 p.m. PST

Anyone know how you can buy these? I've checked out the copplestone website and can't find anything there…though with my techno skills???

Major William Martin RM11 Apr 2009 2:24 p.m. PST

Mark did an announcement here on TMP back on April 3rd that said they would be available online within a fortnight, and apparently told folks at Salute the same thing, so about another week to wait.
