For those that may not be aware, George Gush's seminal volume on Renaissance Warfare from 1480 to 1650, now long out of print, is available online (at least the western armies) at myArmoury.com, as well as sevral other excellent articles relating to this period.

myarmoury.com/features.html

From the index page, scroll down to the heading "Renaissance Armies, 1480 to 1650" and then select the nationality that you want, up pops George's original text and illustrations.

While much new information has come to light in the last 30 years, George's book still represents a valuable resource for the wargamer wanting a "snapshot" summary of a particular army. I for one am delighted that this resource is available online for all to enjoy. Plus, myArmoury's site has many other useful articles for the gamer and historian with subject matter as diverse as "The Winged Hussars of Poland", Gordon Frye's "From Lance to Pistol, The Evolution of Mounted Soldiers from 1550 to 1600", three papers from Robinson's "Anatomy of Armour" series, several late Medieval battle summaries and others. Highly recommended.

Excelent – I still dig out the original articles from Airfix magazine

I have this book and it is fantastic. Now that it is online everyone can get at the juicy bits – an essential volume if you are interrested in Renaissance warfare (especially for the early stuff, Italian Wars, etc.).

Of all the books that I paid 'over the odds' for (this one in kind), this is the one I did not regret buying most.

Yet another book I'm glad I was around to buy when it was new.

I notice that at least the Poles and Ottomans are missing so it's not the complete book.

Found this book at Half Price Books, and got it for $7 USD (if memory serves) three or four years ago. Big-time steal.

Sigh. There goes my investment…
I was planning to retire on mine.

Will;

Hence my comment: "(at least the western armies)"

Why they didn't do the full book, I have no idea. I have my hard copy (#3 and I hope the last I have to buy, must learn to hang on to it), but thought that this may be of use to some who haven't obtained a copy yet. They do have an excellent article on the Polish Hussars though, but by a different author.

For some reason, I can't open the link…

I wonder if Mr Gush or his publisher have released the copyright?

Major William Martin RM18 Mar 2009 3:08 p.m. PST

paintingbird – For some reason, I can't open it anymore either. Did you break it? ;-) Maybe just a net "gremlin", or maybe…

Connard Sage – Maybe they didn't give a release and that's what happened to the link. Oops!

Seriously, they have an excellent reputation, these articles have been out there for some time, and I imagine the site is just experiencing a glitch (I love using technical terms).
