…the Battle of Hampton Roads took place. As a gamer/lay historian, I sure would've like to have been a shoreside witness to that.

OK, get your thinking caps on. Other than the Turner tv movie 'Ironclads', was there any other film, American or foreign, that depicted that epic battle? I can't think of any at the moment.

"She struck us amid ship, our flank she did sever.
Her sharp iron bow pierced our noble ship thorough.
As they sank in the dark rolling water,
We'll die at our guns, cried the Cumberland Crew."

Saginaw, No, but….there is a Spielberg movie about Lincoln in the works and with computer graphics and such, well we'll see how much combat gets woven into the story.

Rumor was Liam Neeson was going to portray Old Abe. An awesome choice if it's true.

Hi

i would go further, how many movies featuring actual ironclad combat are there?

Well Sahara opens with a Confederate ironclad escaping from Union gunfire… does that count?

Saginaw: yes. A 1936 movie (IMDb), "Hearts in Bondage", starred James Dunn. I saw it once in my youth and have seen a TV listing once more but that is all. Never could record it. I thought it pretty good, except for the love story stuff, and I already had a strong interest in ACW. Still, that's over 50 years ago so it may not stand up to time.

No, Sahara was about how Humphrey Bogart won WW2 with an M3 Lee tank and a few British friends (and 1 Frenchman and 1 Italian).

"Sahara" with the ironclad is the recent one that is based upon a Dirk Pitt novel.

Great movie and great book.

The Boggie "Sahara" is a classic in its own right.

I'm not sure the Battle of Hampton Roads would have been very exciting to watch. I imagine some of the sound would have been ear-splitting, though.

SgtPain09 Mar 2009 8:47 p.m. PST

Other then the opening scene in Sahara, There was a mini-series on TV in the late 80's or early 90's called "Ironclads" in was about the Battle of Hampton roads (sort of if you can get pass the love interest sub plot )the battle scenes were pretty good

Wellllll…Bogie's M3 "Lulubelle" _was_ a kind of ironclad and it did find its way into the desert.
Ever think Clive Cussler was inspired by that?

What about the Nautilus ramming the USS Hartford in Disney's 1954 '20,000 leagues'?

Closest thing I've seen!
