Great stuff, about time for the new PLAN ships to be produced. Pity Viking Forge went with the 054 frigate (of which there will only be two) rather than the series-produced 054A.

Looks like they may be put into use sooner than later, if the Chinese keep acting silly:

I doubt it. after all the USN and the Russians used to bump ships every now an again and no-one got all gung-ho over that. anyway, I suspect the USN would be none too pleased with PRC ships operating 75 miles from Norfolk, Va or New London :)

Top Gun Ace09 Mar 2009 3:27 p.m. PST

You are probably correct, especially given the current administration's stance on a number of issues, but I do think the USN would be a bit more professional if the situation was reversed.

Dropping wood over the stern of a vessel, directly in the path of the ship behind it, to damage its hull, and/or propellers, while it is in international waters could be viewed as an act of war. Likewise, cutting across its bow, and stopping dead in the water is just asking for trouble, and inviting damage and injuries on both sides, from a collision.

It does serve as notice to the US Navy to stop sending unarmed vessels and aircraft into harms way, without an escort, unless they want more hostages to be taken.

I guess the Chinese learned nothing from the loss of their fighter pilot in the last air collision off the Chinese coast.

If they want to play rough, they will ultimately lose, since their navy can't hold a candle to that of the USN, assuming our leaders show the ability to stand up to such belligerence.

Great timing with recent news events, there will be lots of folks wanting to sink China scrap!

It just seemed that with the "end" of the Cold War we didn't have any suitable opponents for our U.S. ship collectors. Since we also made many modern Japanese models, it was a natural to give them someone to fight as well.

I just sent of my order. I've been waiting forever for someone to make these, the guys over at GHQ haven't made anything new in the Modern line for something like 10 years. Thanks. How about some modern RN stuff next?

Tumbleweed Supporting Member of TMP01 Apr 2009 6:00 p.m. PST

So may people have requested so many different ships from the WWI Austrians to the Modern Brits. Do you know any good model builders who could scratch build masters of RN ships in 1/2400 scale?

Unfortunately, I don't or I would probably try to market them myself. There is a company I'm working with for a one-off Maritime Pre-Positioning ship, I provide the schematics in a CAD format and they do the casting. Expensive, yes. But sometimes that's the only way to get what you need.

"I provide the schematics in a CAD format and they do the casting"
Sounds intersting. How much does it cost for one model figure?

A member of Viking Forge! I have a question to ask you, do you have an email that could be sent to?

Weirdo, please e-mail us at vikingforge.comcast.net
Thanks for asking!

I just received my order and I have to say WOW! I've been waiting forever for someone to get a clue and do the PLAN. You guys did a great job. Can you do some of their FAC next? Definitely will sing the praises of these ships.

chrisswim208 Jul 2009 8:40 p.m. PST

Paul, what did you get? You seem pleased.

BF Mark16 Jul 2009 7:51 a.m. PST

If anyone would like a 2007 ONI study of PLAN (unclassified – 144 pages), I have it in pdf form at 2.5 mb, and will send it to anyone who e-mails me. My address is posted on my membership page. It may take a few days for me to get back to you because I will be at Historicon.

Paul,
Post with pics of what you received and painted.

There are a lot of terrible websites in the wargaming world. You are in the running for top honors.

Get a blog (Blogger is free), and copy and paste your info over to it. Use static pages for your products. And resize your pictures!

A step up is Wordpress.com (also free at the basic level).

I set up the current PTDockyard site at Wordpress.com just to show the owner how easy it is to do. It took me about two hours – including creating the custom header image and copying over most of the info. And now he's started using it.

Number6:

"There are a lot of terrible websites in the wargaming world. You are in the running for top honors"

…and you are in the running for top honors for cheap shots.

Number622 Apr 2010 2:09 a.m. PST

How is the truth a cheap shot? It's not only not effective, it's embarrassing to the owner and the entire hobby.

This is 2010. It's not hard to do a lot better than you could do in 1995.

And a blog is easier to update.

Of course, it won't be long until you'll be able to add store functions to a Facebook page. Then you'll really see Facebook start to take over.

They look very much like the old minifigs 15mm and fondly remembered from days gone by
