Tank Encounter in the Sandstorm – Game at South London Warlords.

It was just a quick and simple desert game with Valentines, Stuarts, and Rommel's Panzer IIIs emerging out of a sandstorm…….

And maybe because of the speeed of the senario, it showed quite brutally how simple tactical decisions in a game can bring death or glory remarkably quickly. Be interested how anyone else would have played it.

Cheers

Should work

Ditto Tango 2 103 Mar 2009 7:27 p.m. PST

I got the same as Schogun and a message saying "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable". I'll give it a try tomorrow. grin

Cacadores, I just tried again and I get the same thing – log on fields and the "503 Service Temporarily Unavailable". I'll try again later today at work.

Works for me. Interesting idea. I have always wanted to do a scenario where neither side was sure what side the other people were on until spotted, and unable to consult about tactics ahead of time.

That was very neat. Great photographs of the sandstorm. Where did those come from?

Nice battle report.

Working for me now too (lunch time at work). I echo flicking wargame comments on he scenario. And the models are very, very nicely done – what's the scale and manufacturer(s), C?

Thanks a lot,

flicking wargamer,
The various troops came on on random dice rolls. The Commonwealth troops should have a slight advantage to counteract the greater German firepower: here they came on first and so outnumbered the Germans for a while.

They're all from 20mm (1/72) kits: the Panzer IIIs are from 'Attack' except for the 'M', by 'Esci', the Valentines are 'Italieri', the M3 Stuarts (Honeys) are 'Hasegawa' and the SdKfz 222 and 'StuG III' were Airfix.

Minor quibble: I don't think the the Germans ever had any StuGs in N. Africa.

But looks like a fun game, and the photos present it well. Also, nicely painted vehicles. I like the terrain too.

Suggestion: Instead of turning tanks upside down when they're knocked out, just put a piece of cotton wool on them to indicate they have "brewed up."

Works for me, nice report, like the mix of photos too. Top game!

I like the mix of real and game pictures, cool.

''Minor quibble: I don't think the the Germans ever had any StuGs in N. Africa.''

Thanks for the comments. Interestingly (or luckily!) three Ausf D Sturmgeschütz IIIs were sent to North Africa and were used in the Sonderverband z.b.V 288 / special deployment unit.

There's a picture of one here (scroll right down):
