During turn 12 we are going to have a swirling battle on the LBH River. We have 10 warbands fighting 9 companies of cavalry with both cavalry and indians nearby to "march to the guns". Flanks are NOT secure. Escape is not asured. Should be a fun one. Now I have to go sculpt some low rises to break up the flat plains. Pictures will be taken as usual. Eric Burgess |

He use Piquet's Din of Battle 2 which he is working on. Ok, although previous experience in this campaign may suggest otherwise, I'm betting on the US Army players. Make sure to tell Custer to not be greedy and wait! Ohand take the gatling guns! :-D You just gotta take more pics Eric! On a more positive front I have been working on a massive cleaning and reorganization of my gaming room. Boxed up 400+ boxes of plastic figs and bought a new 6 foot shelf for storage. That makes 16 shelves now. :-D I cleaned off my painting and game tables and also picked up some under the table storage containers. I have a few more days work left. But it should REALLY imrove my painting and gaming experiences! I have a box of Pony War's figs right in front of me to complete. They are about half way done. Thanks, John |

Hi John! Sounds like you have been getting organized! So when can I expect a Plains War battle from you? I will definitely take a lot of pictures. I have about 70 from the last battle. Just can't send them all to you! Eric |

Well, just talked to my buddy last night. We are putting it into the game rotation. I figure though that it'll be up to a month before we can play it though. I'd like to use Field of Battle. I just don't think it'll handle the Indians. So, that leaves Yellow Ribbon or Battle for Empire. Battles will handle more units so we may use it. Thanks, John |

John, DoB2 handles them just great. If you want some relavent files I can give them to you. You will have more fun with DoB2 than YR or BoE. Contact me offline if you want. Eric |

Thanks Eric! looks good. I'm thinking that the Cavalry Commanders have learned something along the way. That many Cav troops shouldn't have to worry about flanks. They aren't severely outnumbered. So, unless they make some real tactical mistakes I gotta believe it'll be a hard day for the Indians. Can't wait! John |

Well, when I run a battle each player ALWAYS has to worry about flanks. This is a large table LOTS of room to manuever. Each side will have to be aware or protect their flanks. If they don't then they will have trouble. The cavalry start with 5 companies on the board and 4 arriving on the Indian flank sometime after the beginning of the second turn. On the beginning of the 4th turn both the Indians AND cavalry will receive a stratagem card. When that is revieled then additional reinforcements arrive in the enemy's REAR! The Campaign PowerPoint slide show will show how this craziness happened. Should be a swirling mess. |

Ahhh
that's an interesting twist. I had thought the Cavalry was riding with all 9 troops to their encounter. That's why I figured flanks weren't much of an issue. Any decent commander would be able to deploy adequate flank guards with almost an entire regiment available. Thanks, John |

Tomorrow is a day with destiny! Will the cavalry prevail or will the Indians protect their homelands?! It should be a blast! Eric |
John Leahy | 03 Mar 2009 8:38 p.m. PST |
Yep, should be an interesting one. I'm not as sure of the Army now that they are deployed seperately. The Army players seem to have had a tough 'row to hoe' in this campaign. Not sure if this will be different. Can't wait to see the AAR! :-D Thanks, John |

Most of that has been self inflicted. I think the next time we run the game they will be much more effecient. This campaign kinda mirrors real life blunders by the cavalry commanders of the era. Eric |
