This a game forum Well spotted. so stop hiding from people Certainly Mr Irish Marine (obviously that's your real name, just like on your birth certificate, right? After all you can't be hiding from people
.) you will never probably ever meet Well there's a sad loss for me
. and tell why you might want to stifle someone. Speaking purely hypothetically, I might want to stifle someone because they were apparently an idiot, who posts opinions without any rationale behind them, calls anyone they disagree with a bed-wetter or somesuch, and rails against people "hiding" on the internet whilst themselves using a pseudonym to make their posts, unlike many of the people they're railing against, who are using their real names
. Hypothetically speaking, obviously. Dom, off to add one to Irish Marine's stifle count
. |
Gwartizan | 25 Feb 2009 2:49 p.m. PST |
As they say in the Sweeney "Leave it Dom, it ain't worth it" (oh and it's your turn to on his bed tonight) ;-) |
Daffy Doug | 25 Feb 2009 5:25 p.m. PST |
Edith Bunker is my hero. And I want to see all those who have stifled me, so I can go after them, with pruning shears; travel costs are no obstacle, and I have plenty of time
. |
Topkick890 | 25 Feb 2009 6:46 p.m. PST |
Tell you what Irish – I've never stifled anyone but since I am considering making you my first let me stand unafraid and tell you it is becasue you are coming across like a flaming horses ass. Make you feel better? |
aecurtis | 25 Feb 2009 7:04 p.m. PST |
I only have two stifled, but they're listed as "unknown member", so I can't un-stifle them. But I want the ability to ignore anyone I wish to, without its being anyone's damn business. Because it *isn't* anyone's damn business. Not even insecure hammock-wetters. Allen |
Crow Bait | 25 Feb 2009 7:08 p.m. PST |
Or does doing it in public get every bodies wieners all tingly because now Irish and I have to meet after school? Tingly, yes. But I think it has more to do with OFM's tongue flickie thing. Enough fuel for 100 fantasy's. |
raducci | 25 Feb 2009 7:13 p.m. PST |
Gotta watch those insecure hammocks. You can fall and get a nasty knock. The only (minor) issue I have with the whole stifle nonsense is the implied competition over who has the most. Now that's silly. However basically stifling is just too unimportant to worry about, post about, rant about, poll about or think about. Though I do believe there's not that much thinking going on over this. It's more like knee-jerk. |
DJCoaltrain | 25 Feb 2009 8:54 p.m. PST |
Irish Marine 25 Feb 2009 7:28 a.m. PST Too many bedwetters and lurkers. I have never heard of so many people who are afriad of others how do some of you cope with the real world. I fear fear itself! Therefore, I need a hug, chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate milk. |
DJCoaltrain | 25 Feb 2009 8:57 p.m. PST |
Irish Marine 25 Feb 2009 12:47 p.m. PST Nope just slide one the cats litter boxes under the hammock and your set. I'd not want to be eating Almond Rocca in that hammock, and the ten second rule definitely doesn't apply. |

Armies around the world have contemplated for decades on how to combat the big burly US Marines. The solution is rather simple. Attack them with nothing more than a finger poised over the stifle button! Fear the stifle! |

"Today's poll on "Make Stifles Public?" really bothers me. The fact that the topic is even being brought to a vote shows that the Editor is considering it. IF the list of who has stifled a particular member were to be made public, it would betray the privacy that the members THOUGHT they had when they stifled someone." Yeah, then nobody could be a gutless back-biting punk on TMP anymore. How awful! Say what you like about Frothers, at least they speak openly. |
GoodBye | 26 Feb 2009 9:47 a.m. PST |
Say what you like about Frothers, at least they speak openly. We aren't really allowed to do that here are we? Sort of a pointless arguement I think. |
Daffy Doug | 26 Feb 2009 9:57 a.m. PST |
Say what you like about Frothers, at least they speak openly. That is a joke. I was the ONE responsible for a number of them discovering their own "stifle" feature for the first time; they enjoyed twitting-on about how they could no longer "see" me, and basking in the blessed silence. |
Gwartizan | 26 Feb 2009 10:01 a.m. PST |
Well you do enjoy the attention |
Inquisitor Thaken | 26 Feb 2009 11:54 a.m. PST |
DRDHauser "We aren't really allowed to do that here are we? Sort of a pointless arguement I think." Have a difference of opinion with one of Bill's Old Guard, or anybody that's putting money in his pocket, and see how quick the jellyfish DHs you. |
GoodBye | 26 Feb 2009 1:10 p.m. PST |
InqThaken, that was exactly my point and I have the scars to show for it. For the record money in Bill's pocket hasn't actually bought me anything except a few bits of flash. That's all it really does do as I understand it. During the blood letting of a year ago folks with much more influence then me were ignored as well. |
John the OFM | 26 Feb 2009 7:39 p.m. PST |
I fail to see how stifling anyone is "gutless and back biting". By the very definition (as used here), I can't read what anyone is writing. That is ALL it does. How can I bite their back if I don't know what they have written? I guess you think that in some imaginary Internet Dimension, I have spit on their mother's grave or something. |
John the OFM | 26 Feb 2009 7:41 p.m. PST |
I fear for the future, seeing the level of reading comprehension on this thread. |
Spectacle | 26 Feb 2009 9:42 p.m. PST |
Regardless of whose feelings would get hurt or not, publicizing the name's of stiflers would be a huge mess, with stiflees starting threads left and right to denounce their stiflers. Of course the stiflers wouldn't see these posts, but everyone else would be supremely annoyed. The flamewar might even spill out to other forums were the stiflees think they can reach their stiflers. Keep stifles anonymous and remove the stifle count, TMP has a ridiculous amount of drama as it is, no need to make things worse. |

Say what you like about Frothers, at least they speak openly. They have their party line over there. And, if you fail to toe the party line you will feel the wrath of their righteous indignation, especially in the Froth Pot. Having bounced about the net a bit, as near as I can tell there is always a party line in each discussion group. Certain understandings arise and one challenges them at the risk of being "stifled" by the Protectors of the Faith, or being unceremoniously banned from a site by the High Preist who can not permit heresy to destroy what's in place. It's in the nature of the beast that such happens, a few million years of evolution can't be swept aside by just claimimg to be rational or reasonable. People just don't feel secure when others don't accept their world view, they feel threatened, and Security is only one level from the bottom of Maslow's Hierarchy. Therefore, it's logical that heretics are flamed or banned. Secret Stifles allow the TMP society to function by protecting posters from one another. Or, maybe not. Pass the Thin Mints, please. |
