Hi guys,

we played our Hochkirch scenario on Wednesday night. Some bits worked, but others were left a little wanting. This was mainly due to the size of the table – it took too long for the 'northern' Austrian attack to develop – any surprise was lost. Consequently, I'm going to edit the scenario (with a very big hatchet) and add some real Kriegspiel elements to it. I hope to repost the ammended scenario later today.

By the way, the Prussians decided not to withdraw, they redeployed south towards Hochkirch and behind the stream. Here they beat off the attack from the south to the point that Hochkirch would, in all likelyhood, remain in their possession for the duration of the battle, leaving them free to launch powerful counter attacks against the Austrian flanking columns. The worst thing (funniest thing) to happen to the Prussians all night, was when Keith was declared to be the 'Heroic' Prussian commander: He promptly joined the Grenadiers in Hochkirch and the Prussian players were all smiles (a +2 melee and morale bonus would make them almost invulnerable providing Keith passed any survival checks: 87.5% chance) – on the very next sequence card he failed his officer survival check and had his head blown off! So much for heroics!

The highlight for me was the poor Ausrtian unit (BDV =d4) which struggled up the hill towards Hockirch. Withstood volleys from a Prussian Grenadier unit. Fought its way into the town. Saw Keith Head get blown off and then beat and routed the Grenadiers after a prolonged melee.

It sounds like the Marshal Keith part of the game played true to historical form. It sounds like you need more forces in the attack columns converging on the town of Hochkirch.

You'd think Keith would have learn't by now!
