It will be interesting to see how this scenario plays out. You have picked out a tough battle to game so I'm looking forward to reading the AAR. The analogy to Dunkirk seems to be appropriate.

Now I'll have to go back to my Duffy books to find out which Austrian general came up with the brilliant and unconvential "converging columns of attack" that was instituted at Hochkirk.

I just recently ran a Hochkirch game (twice) and oriented the game table much as you did.

I chose to run a "What if" sceanrio with Frederick taking his sentry reports from the night before the battle seriously and actually turning to face the Austrians.

This gave a really good game. I had the initial setup similar to yours but had the off board Prussians in motion and arriving during the fight just as the Austrians did.

The first time we played it the Austrians were very tentative and the 2 main infantry columns were stopped cold. This led to a marginal Prussian victory.

In the second game the Austrians were very aggresive and the Prussian units entering the fight were under fire before they even had a chance to deploy. This resulted in a major Austrian victory.

I predict an Austrian victory.

But then I am on the Austrian side tonight.

Now this will be interesting, When I gamed it was SYW and Hochkirch was one battle I didn't do.
