Does anyone remember the wonderful Waterloo display wargame set up at the Duke Of York's Headquarters in London in 1965? This is what really hooked me and many other Londoners on Napoleonic wargaming. The game was set up of course on the 150th anniversary of the Battle. Can't help but wondering what is in store for us in 2015.

I can find few details although the game itself is etched into memory. I think it may have been staged by Peter Gilder? I remember various trade stands with such figures as Hinton Hunt's on sale.

Anyone have photos, brochures or other details?

Also, was anyone at the "convention" held at the Royal Connaught Hotel a few years later. May have been sponsored by SELWG? Not quite Salute but an early attempt to put on a good show. Good times!

There is a photo of that in one of Featherstone's books I'm sure, but I can't remember which one?

"Featherstone's Complete Wargaming" … page 9.

If I recall correctly, there was also a photo in an old 'Military Modelling' or 'Battle' magzine, that had as one of the players a very young Peter Hofshroer … though it may not have been the exact same event.

My recollection is that most of the gamers in the photo are wearing coats and ties.

Well one things for sure not many of them in original photo will be there, most of them are dead!

My advice would be to start planning it now – it will take up until May 2015 to finish the argument on which rules to use!

Celebrate a victory? Isn't that…well…..elitist?

Trajanus17 Feb 2009 12:28 p.m. PST

Ah! But is it a British or German Victory?

Stevenmack6518 Feb 2009 6:24 p.m. PST

there will be no celebrations due to the fact it may upset the Frenchies…

Alte Fritz, come to think of it, my Dad probably made my brother and I wear ties. I'm sure he did. But it was a wonderful thing for a 13 year old to see. Got me hooked for life. The older Gents (probably 30 year olds!) were very impressive with their massive armies of Hinton Hunt's and early Minifigs. I'd never seen anything like it. The "set" was magnificent. I'm hoping someone on this Board can lead me to some pictures.
