Hey all
I have an order of battle from Brandywine that lists, among others, Byrd's Regiment of Continental Dragoons. I have established the numerical designations of the others but am having trouble with Byrd's. I am almost certain it is the 3rd Continental Dragoons, but I can't find good documentation for it. Here are the others from the same OOB: Bland's Regiment (1st Continental) Sheldon's Regiment (2nd Continental) Byrd's Regiment ??? White's Regiment (4th Continental) The only info I have for Byrd's is from the French and Indian War and they were an infantry regiment. Can anyone help in finding out what Continental regiment designation Byrd's had? Thanks! |

Are you confident in the OOB? Neither a Byrd nor a White are listed in Boatner's Dictionary of American Revolution as Dragoons. There is no mention of Byrd's Dragoons in Thomas McGuire' Philadelphia Campaign, a readable and detailed study before and after the Brandywine battle. The 3rd is usually listed as Baylor's and the 4th Moylan's. There were other mounted persons, e.g. Philadelphia Troop, but I haven't found commanders, yet. |

Could Byrd's simply be a typo for Baylor's? |

I have found proof of White's being the 4th Continental. I was also wondering if the Byrd's wasn't a typo. It seems very possible. White was appointed as Lt. Col. of the 4th on Feb. 13, 1777. |
