Hallo to everybody, I am looking for west african natives (28mm). Especially from Gambia, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana. Period is early 18th century. Do you have suggestions? Thanks |

Do you guys really not know that 'early 18th century' means 1700 – 1750 ? Maybe the muskets didn't change that much. |

Native dress did not change that much between 1700 and 1880, at least to the 'average us'. The main problem would be with 'modern' rifles, cartridge pouchs &c
Dixon Dahomey 'Amazons' look like female Orcs, btw. |

Well, Foundry's african natives are pretty generic, and would work fine for the spear-armed varieties. Steer away from the Foundry Maasai, because Mark Copplestone sculpted them to model the distinctive maasai physique, very unlike west African body shapes. link But those guys are a bit expensive if you need hordes of 'em. I recommend Old Glory's Lost tribes, even though they are slightly fanciful. Great figures, and a good price. link If you swap boring shields (or no shields) for the ones which come in the pack, they look much more historical. I also recommend old glory's excellent "masked warriors of darkness" range, but these are completely fantasy. Cool nonetheless, and a real treat to paint. link |

Hi Chick Yep – but figured it was better to recommend "Long Dane" armed Ashanti as they have more or less the correct dress for West Africa. Especially as the "Long Dane" seems to be any old thing usually made in Birmingham and sold by Danish traders. IIRC there were some Sugar War figures produced by Stratagem which would fit the bill. You could try some of the Foundry Pirate range as well. Hope this helps. Phil |

I would follow Chicks and Tinned fruits advice. I use Foundry natives and pirate/maroons for gaming the fighting around Carolusborg in Ghana in the 1650s. It involved Swedes, Danes, Dutch and natives. |
