Has anyone tried FoW in a smaller scale? If so, how did it go? |

I assume you mean something other than just putting 6mm figures on the normal bases and playing as is
I am currently building a number of armies in 6mm. One rule set I use is Flames of War in half-scale. Bases are half size and I use half-size rulers. This means my 5 x 8 table is effectively 10 x 16. It also means you can actually maneuver. So two tigers on the steps of Russia are not much use when the fast T34s can fly around your flanks. I've played it twice and it works well – though I use alternating platoon and hidden movement and a few other minOr tweaks. |

We play it in 10/12mm and as a game I think it looks better as the ranges and size of miniatures feel a little better scale wise however having said that the well painted 15mm FOW stuff looks better than well painted 15mm stuff enough to the point where some of us are collecting 15mm FOW anyway. |

"

" ..is not a bad idea, as it mitigates the Panzer Parking Lot syndrome, and begins to give appropriate dispersion for infantry. As Rdfraf says, smaller scales look better in that regard. Allen |

It can only be a good thing Ssendam. 6' x 4' becomes useful as a playing area in 6mm. |

FOW half-size? Not a bad idea. Now I have some excuse to buy this rules. |

I've read of several players doing it using 6mm miniatures, and just substituting metric cm for inches 1:1 if tight on space, or just using existing measurements as others have mentioned. It works quite well. In a fit of madness, I ordered a bunch of 3mm WW2 stuff last night to do exactly this with, so I can get some games in while traveling. Sure, it'll be flock with little lumps on each base, but it'll fit in my travel bag easily. :) - Bob |

A few of us did it at the local gaming club. Used microarmour on 25mm bases, and substituting centimetres for inches in the rules (ie. movement, ranges etc). Otherwise played the rules "as written". It works great! Better IMHO than playing in 15mm. The reason is that on the same size table, you have far more ground area represented. So suddenly there's no more "wall to wall" tanks (something that bugs me about FOW, and games like WH40k). Forces have flanks, greater speed matters, and weapons have limited range (ie. they don't reach clear across the battlefield). It is *much* better. I'd recommend giving it a try. Having done it, I now wouldn't go back to 15mm FOW (unless played on a 12' x 8' table!!). cheers, bish |

I played FOW once in 15mm and the aesthetics killed it for me. Then we did it in 6mm, using cm instead of inches and with existing basing and it worked fine. |

Thanks for the comments / feedback. I'm looking for a way of using my 6mm figures and this might just work for me. I ordered the FoW intro. set, (comes with some 15mm Tanks but it will be nice to see the miniatures and make the comparison), so I can have a play with the idea. I think for me the 1/2 base size idea sounds best. Stay frosty! |

Someone posted a link to their blog here ages ago, and he's done the same thing. He's scaled down the basing as well and has done some really nice work in detailing the bases: link |
