Awesome video taken from the air of the Marine's landing on Iwo Jima. One truly gets a perspective on how large an undertaking this was when viewing the video.

That is a fantastic video as it covers the full scope of forming up the first wave of landing craft, the approach to the beaches, the landings, and then the withdrawal of the landing craft. Also conveys the sheer amount of shellfire landing while all this is going on. A few of the closer approaches clearly show vehicles on the beaches immediately after landing. Makes you wonder how much raw footage is still out there.

I'll lay my money on this having been shot from a PBY Catalina.

Excellent footage. My feeling is that the film was probably shot from one of the PB4Y-1P Liberators of VD-1. Some of the footage you can see the rear of an engine nacelle and what looks to be the turbocharger. Add in what appears to be a faded three tone camo, to me that makes it one of VD-1s photo Liberators probably flying up from Saipan to film the landings.
