hi everyone;

I've just started painting 15mm Teutonic Knigts and it seems like already I am making the job harder than it should be.

here's the steps I've done so far.
I primed in a dark grey and then used a white spray paint over that on some of the figures.
A couple of other figures, I brushed on the white in areas needed.
I then used Vallejo gunmetal on the armor, followed by a black ink wash.
Then I had to go back and touch up the white.
I don't know but it seems like a lot of steps.

First off…to anyone who has painted 15mm Teutonics.
Should I have primed them in black instead.
or
Would I have been better served priming them in white and do a black wash where needed.

help!
Thanks Brothers.

Prime them in black first. Then paint the cloth a medium gray, like Cel Vinyl's gray 10. Then do a lighter gray and save the white for the very extreme highlights.

After this go back and touch up the armour areas that got paint on them black. then dry brush these with a metal colour. That should suffice on 15mm figs, but you might want to go back with a brighter metal for a high light.

U/C black.
Dry brush dark silver/gunmetal onto the armoured bits.
Dry brush white.
Use a good pen to draw the shield/barding crosses.
Paint a few bits of horse brown that stick out from the barding.

Used white for an undercoat. Applied thin washes for non metallics and gunmetal for armour. Finished the armour with black ink and highlighted with silver.

What pictors studio said – black undercoat and use the black to block the details, then use grey and finally white for cloth, use dark gunmetal for armour/chainmail etc, then highlight edges etc with silver.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

Nice work timurilank.

I have enough figures to paint for this FoG army that I'll try all the methods.

I have just bought the late Teutonic Knight box set from old glory in 15mm – so the above is great – only problem is I am not sure exactly what 'late' means in this context. Has anyone any experience with this? Were they still wearing white and black?

Oh and finally – does anyone know what FOG book corresponds with this force?

thanks! FRaser

I still prefer the white undercoat school. It works especialy well for white uniforms.

The FOG "ETERNAL EMPIRE – the Ottomans at War" book includes a "Later Teutonic Knights" army list.

The colors the brother knights and sergeants wore didn't change much, most change was to the armor beneath.

THanks Mad Guru
