About to throw in an order to FR for some "bits" and looking for ways to amortize the postage rate
Thinking of ordering a 9-lber gun and crew to go with my plastic Victrix stuff. How do the Victrix figures compare in size and heft with Victrix plastics? Thanks! w. |

A mix of Front Rank and Perry French artillery and Victrix plastics. This is from the range that we look at them, afterall. To me, they are a near perfect match. Front rank are slightly rounder. Photo of a playtest game: picture |

Personally I dont think they do compare well, figure for figure. I would say though that mixing their Artillery/Crew with Victrix Infantry units would look ok on the table. However aren't Perry supposed to be coming out with a full Brit range soon, I would assume that would include Artillery and they are a very good match for Victrix. |

(Long..er story) I started with 28mm Naps from Foundry, Redoubt and Old Glory. The Foundry were the smallest of the three, but if kept as their own units, were fine. When it came time to buy more figs, after having seen the figs, I considered Front Rank and Elite. Elite were far taller and beefier than all the rest, so I chose not to get them. Front Rank were slightly taller than the rest, but not by much. However, now that I have them, they're definitely taller/bigger than my Foundry figs (the smallest). I'm hoping that they'll look okay on the table as separate units. I have a box of Victrix on order, but I have seen them at a local store. Although the height may be 28mm, the "frame" is more natural and so thinner, and the heads are definitely smaller than the rest. Again, I'm hoping they'll be fine on their own. Further, I would say that Victrix matches up very well with the thinner Alban figs. So overall, I would say that Victrix and Front Rank do *not* mix. |

I keep considering this 'mix' issue. When I look around at the current populace, we're all of different sizes. I was a military guy for 21 years, much of it in the UK and Europe. As Americans, all shapes and sizes. So I look at my units on the table and wonder why in hell must I have them all at 5'9'', slender and in a like pose. Absolute nonsense. Once painted in a similar uniform pattern, and if in some nasty campaign attire, just what do I care if they're not all the same size? Seems ludicrous, yet I follow convention. All my units, with rare exception, are similar in size and posture, for only 1 reason
aesthetics. Stupid really, as 'real' life demonstrates just the opposite |

pbishop is absolutely right, of course. We're all different sizes and heights. But put 20 pbishops (or Schoguns) next to 20 footballers or 20 basketball players and it'll look odd indeed. |

I ordered some Front Rank extras for a bit of variety, as well as casualties for my casualty markers. I've painted some up and imho they go together very well. |
