My pal Nazrat and I have been exploring games of Desposible Heroes/Coffin for 7 Brothers in 15mm while keeping all the ranges and movements the same as for the normal 28 mm games we run. The results have been fantastic. Today I ran a scenario I am working on based on the first battle between American and German armor in WW II. This occured in the Chouigui Pass in Tunisa. We had a blast with 9 German Panzers and 12 American tanks on the table. Historically the American forces ambushed the Germans and being at near point blank range the M3 Stuarts were able to brew up 7 of the German tanks before forcing the Germans to withdraw. Historically the American forces lost 6 tanks.

Because I only had 5 Stuarts painted up the remainder of the American force was made up of Lee tanks. During the real battle the American forces only had Stuarts and some Halftracks with 75mm howitzers. The Germans had 6 Pz IV F2s and 3 Pz III Js historically and that is what the German players had during the game.

We managed to play the game in just over 1 and half hours and those who played it had many great ideas to tweak the scenario. One of which is that I should try to purchase and paint up enough Stuarts and drop the Lees from the scenario. We also talked about ways to set things up to allow for the hidden American units but balance it out so the Germans might discover them before presenting their sides and rear to the Americans which is just what happened in our game today. Only one German Pz III made it off the table and the Americans had lost all 5 Stuarts and 1 Lee by the end of the 10 turn game. So it was a solid American win. I am thinking of running this at some conventions because it was a great way to showcase the Armor rules in DH/C7B. With it being such a fast game it could be run multiple times without wearing me, the game master down too much. I have also considered borrowing an idea from the Skirmish Campaign books and providing for variable attachments to make each game different every time it is played.

Anyone have thoughts on the scenario or have you also played DH/C7B in 15mm?

We've been gaming 15mm without range changes ourselves, more and more. We found that as long as we had the table space, somehow 15mm games look really nice using standard ranges. We continue to use the half scale for 15mm when we are throwing a company each out there, as it manages easier for space.

I am not familiar with the battle, but there are others like it, when troops just blunder into each other at close range. They do tend to make for quick, bloody games :)
