I wanted to make several market/bazar stands for my 15mm Middle East town and wondered if anyone could tell me how to go about modelling something that resembles "cloth" for the market stand awnings? If it was 28mm I'd just go with Black Cat Bases market stalls, but with 15mm I'm kinda on my own as I'm not aware of anyone making something similar in this scale. Any help would be much appreciated. -B6 |

Have you tried putting watered down PVA onto tissue paper and seeing whether that's a suitable cloth effect |

Bravo Six, I've used cut up used (and dried) tea bags + watered down PVA for cloth. It works great. |

Cheese cloth works great as well when mixed with watered down white glue and then shaped to the stall as needed. Paints up nicely as well. |

I've used cheesecloth and gauze bandages in the way Hitman describes. Worked great. |

On his modern desert buildings, Matakishi prints out patterns on copier paper and sets / stiffens it with PVA (white glue). That's 28mm but I'd think the same technique would apply to 15mm as well. link Scroll down a bit. |

I've used, the foil tops of individual Fruit Yogurt cups. Nice & thin, & durable, takes priming. Skal, Sven |

I'd vote for tissue paper with PVA glue too. I got a little confused by the term 'tissue paper' in english, as I thought that only meant hygienic tissue paper, and not wrapping tissue paper. You learn something new every day, I suppose. Anyway, if you'd like something sturdier, you can always do it in greenstuff. Just mix it together and let i lie for ten minutes or so, till it's not so sticky. And then roll it out quite thin using a suitable round smooth pen or similar (I use the back end of one of my scalpels). Cut out the form and size you want, and drape it artistically over your stall. It's actually easier than it sounds. |

There was an article in a model railroading magazine years ago that involved using double-sided tape to attach a linen handkerchief to a piece of paper, loading it in a printer and printing an appropriate striped pattern on it, cutting it to size, and installing it as an O-scale awning with diluted white glue as a stiffener and to keep the edges from fraying. They looked great. It would probably work better in 25mm/28mm than 15mm, but it might be worth a shot. |

old linen hankerchief (i.e. the starch washed out of it) cut into shape and then soaked in tea and left to dry |

Thanks all. GREAT suggestions. Paul, I had that eBay seller bookmarked for sometime now, because they used to do ammo dumps in resin for FOW but they haven't had ANY gaming items now for a very long time. -B6 |

Paul, that seller seems to have now branched off and formed a store on eBay called "Long Range Logisitics". All the stuff they were selling is on there now. Just FYI. -B6 |
