I picked up Blitzkrieg Commander over the holidays and now I'm all flushed with excited plans to put together some Utah Beach To Cherbourg games for The Gang. Can anyone recommend some good quality source material providing a solid overview of the campaign and perhaps aid in assembling some decent scenario and order of battle information? There are quite a few books available that seem to well cover the initial landing and Ste. Mere-Eglise phase of the campaign but I'd really like to see some more detailed accounts of what went on as the action moved inland and turned towards Carentan, St. Sauveur le Vicomte, and Cherbourg itself. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! |

Mark what's up with the Utah to Cherbourg interest? It's kinda funny because during this same time frame I've been stung by the 29th ID; Omaha to St Lo bug! Any specific Division that you are interested in, or is it the whole operation? What scale are you planning this in? Perhaps we need to get together for lunch in DC soon and brainstorm. I was thinking of using either Rapid Fire or BattleFront WWII in 12mm. regards, Donald~ |

The Battle Zone Normandy series by Sutton Publishing are just what you're looking for. Great maps and battle detail for scenarios at the BKC level. I got a bunch of this series from a local used bookstore, and then some more from abe.com #8 in the series is Cherbourg. |

Thanks all; the books and that web link were just what I was hoping for! Next stop is Powell's online. Donald, a game-planning lunch downtown sometime next week would get great. (Assuming this wretched rain ever stops . . .) I'll shoot you a note offline. |
