Does anyone make 25-30mm camels with howdahs or chairs? Something like this: picture Also, I'm trying to find some more pictures in case I decide to scratchbuild one and neither "camel howdah" nor "camel chair" seem to get many relevant hits. Do they go by any other names? For that matter, if anyone already knows any good photos online, please do link to them. I think they come in all kinds of shapes (including those funny balloon-shaped ones), but what I'm mainly interested in is how exactly they fit over the camels' backs. I know the distinction between a chair and a saddle can be a bit hazy in this context. By a "chair" I mean anything the rider doesn't have to straddle. |

Rhoderic, what are you planning? I was going to post a similar question for Victorian SF. As for your question, Castaway Arts has a side-saddle mounted officer, but I am guessing that doesn't help. |

Try Castaways under their accessories range – camel mounted ambulance:- link Which may have some potential for what you want. |

In the movie "Lawrence of Arabia", check the march on Aqaba. There is a segment showing the harem were hidden behind curtained "carriage". I would check the online catalogue of Berlin Zinfiguren at zinnfigur.com. They would certainly have an illustration. A tip if chose to scratch build, I would drape the camel with carpet and loads of tassels and have a pair of dainty feet protruding under the silk curtain. Cheers, |

Thanks for the tips. Rhoderic, what are you planning? I was going to post a similar question for Victorian SF. I was thinking of painting up one or two for my Conan project. Ornate ones with canopies and all. They're not a priority (I have literally hundreds of ideas for my Conan project), but they'd be excellent for reinforcing that whole luxurious "Arabian Nights" aspect of Swords & Sorcery. I don't recall having seen any miniatures like this around, so I'm quite resigned to having to scratchbuild the howdahs or chairs myself. As it happens I already have some suitable seated Middle Eastern type figures. It's just the practical issues of fitting a howdah or chair on a camel's back that I'm having trouble figuring out in my head. Here are some more pictures of various camelback rigs I've managed to scrounge up (they got to be quite a few in the end): picture picture picture (weird!) picture picture picture picture picture picture picture picture picture link picture link picture picture picture picture picture Apparently there are also camel litters: picture picture picture picture picture Also, howdahs on horses! picture |

Forum bug keeps the post count from updating. Just posting again to see if this fixes it. |

This sounds like something that John the OFM would be working on. |

Why only John the OFM? Someone toying with SYW war balloons ideas could endvisage 'Prussian' zamberek camels (and jingal elephants?) – gifts from the Sultan to Der Alte Fritz as a token of anti-Empressesses sympathy? |
