Since I'm closing down BG: Weird War II I didn't want these great battle reports to be lost so here ya go.

This report was done by JC.

Enjoy,
Brian

Finally got a huge terrain piece completed, a 1/48th scale grain silo from Korber Models that has been detailed and finished as a WWII fortified grain silo. I ran a battle over this at a local game club meeting. Two Soviet squads, one regular Infantry and one Soviet Marines, plus Maxim guns, PTRDs and a sniper. The Germans had 2x understrength platoons assaulting, with 2x MMGs, Engineers, and a sniper. The Germans were able to set up their attack anywhere surround the structure and in the powerplant, while the Soviets could set up anywhere inside the Silo. The German strategy was to swamp one side of the building and blow holes in the building in order enter, covered by machines guns and troops in the powerplant.

The Germans got an initial round of preparatory mortar fire and called smoke down to obscure their attack on the Silo. The German attack was deliberate at first, with MMGs and LMGs laying suppressing fire on the Silo, while the Soviets hunkered down and held fire until the first wave on the East side was in the open, and then the Black Devils gave 'em heck, opening up with PPSh and Rifles. The Germans paid a heavy price on the South side crossing to the building, where a rain of grenades from the upper floors drove them away and to the cover of a smoldering Hanomag. The attack on the West side went home, and the Germans blew entry holes with demo charges and stormed the first floor, harassed by fire from the roof tops. The Soviets clambered out of mouse-holes in the side of the silo and launched a spoiling attacked, but were cut down in a short and nasty fire fight.

Once inside the battle sped up, and the Germans started charging up the floors. The cleaned out the second floor with point-blank grenade and SMG fire, and an assault squad charged up the machinery catwalk to assault the 3rd floor. The 3rd floor was stormed Germans coming in the machinery access hatch and up the stairs, and while the players had to break the game, the Germans were able to essentially sieze the 3rd floor of the Silo as well. The Soviets had two figures go hero, including one tBlack Devil hat rolled Hero of the Soviet Union and was still fighting to defend the 3rd floor.

All in all, it was a great game, and the players enjoyed it. BGWWII does need some interior combat rules. Players wanted to do stuff like pitch grenades around corners and use the flamethrower in rooms where it seems there'd be some back-blast. Also, one player pointed out that such cases a flamethrower gunner could also fire "cold shots" and hose an area down with fuel and then ignite it with another shot.

That is really cool – I'll have to copy that with our game group! Nice job on the silo.
