I've heard mentioned that General Meagher of the Irish Brigade had a green uniform. Is there any truth to this? I'm painting the Irish Brigade and have the Redoubt mounted figure of the General. Any assistance would be appreciated. Happy New Year! |

According to a book I have full of Don Troiani paintings, he did wear a uniform of green velvet in one battle. I believe it was the Battle of Gaines' Mill. Here's the painting: picture |

He had a Dark green frock coat made by Brooks Brothers which he did wear at times. The corporate offices in NYC actually still have the order slip. There is some disagreement as to the hat and pants but the coat did exist. It was worn at the steeplechase races set up for St. Patrick's Day in 1862 as well as at Gaines' Mill. Sean |

If you want Don is a friend of mine and I can try to get more information on his uniform. Let me know. Peter |
